PIPE.
Application filed October 13, 1919. Serial No, 330,164."k
To all coito/m t may concern.'
Re it lmownthat Grenen N.V BROATCH, a subject oip the King ofGreat lBritain, residiin;- atMoose Jaw, in the Province of Sasiratohewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful improvements in Pipes,n of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to smokers pipes, and has for anobject the provision of a pipe in which the particles of tobacco and the moisture trom the bowl. are prevented from passing into the mouth of the smoker.
-Another object is the provision of a pipe having a chamber for the collection of tobacco particles or moisture, in which there is provided a novel form of screen or perforated hollow cone positioned between the bowl and mouth piece for the purpose of preventing` the passage of the said particles or moisture through the stem, thereby providing a. suiiicient condensation of the moisture in the smoke so as to prevent any moisture from comingthrough to the mouth of the smoker.
Another object is the provision of a pipe possessing the different characteristics, which is simple of construction and which maybe easily taken apart' and reassembled for the purpose of cleaning.
Another object is the provision of novel form of screen or perforated cone which may vary in size or shape to suit or fit varirated metal or wire screen whichwill permit ofits usel indefinitely, and will obviate the necessity of carrying or purchasing,` means for replenishing or cleaning` the filter `as is customarily required.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accomis a longitudinal sectional view Referring to the drawings,v` wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the bowl of the pipe is indicated at` 1'() `and the stein at I1i. The latter is formed in sections 12 and 13, the former being,v carried by the bowl and the latter forming the mouth piece of the pipe. These sections are joined together by forming the mouth piece with a reduced portion' or nipple 14, which enters the adjacent end of the section 12 and may be either a slip oint or a push oint, or may be threadedly vsecured therein, as desired.
The extremity of the nipple 14 is further reduced, as indicated at 15, and this reduced portion is adapted to receive the cylindrical base of the screen or perforated cone 16 which in the present disclosure, for illustrative purposes, is shown as composed of a wire screen, 'it of course being obvious that the filter could be in the form of a. perforated metal cone as well as the screen structure disclosed; the base of the said screen or cone is adapted to be varied in diameter,`
This chamber communicates with the bowl through the medium of a passage 18, which is preferably located adjacent the bottom of the chamber. By forming the screen or perforated cone 16 in the manner shown, an obstructed passage for the smoke is always provided through the bore of the stem, as inthe` event of any of the particles of tobacco resting upon the surface of the vscreen` or cone, the smolremay freely pass 'through the openings upon the lower surface.
A further advantage in providing the perforated metal cone or screen with a conical or tapered lclosed end resides in ,providing a y lbaffled passageway from the bowl to the mouthpiece of such a formation that the nicotine collecting on the perforated metal cone or screen will be carried down to the' point or forward end of the filter and there be dropped off into the chamber 17 and whatever moisture in the form of nicotine or otherwise which may be retained on the inside of the perforated metal cone or screen lio details of construction and the right is herein,`
reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.'
Having described the invention, what is i claimed is A pipe comprising a bowl and a sectional stem, said stem being formed with van enlarged chamber communicating with the bowl through a constricted opening in the inner wall oi" said chamber, said mouth piece provided at its inner end with a reduced lshoulder, and a hollow cone-shaped perforated metal or wire screen having its enlarged end engagingv said reduced shoulder, and its tapered end extending within the chamber for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof affix my signature.
