Be it known that I, WILLIAM vWALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sawtelle, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Smoking Pipe, of whichthe following is a specifi# cation. l

This invention relates to an improved smoking pipe, but it has more particular reference to a pipe rof this class whichy is specifically known as a Water pipe.

It is my object to provide a pipe of, this class which subjects the smoke to a Huid bath for the purpose of removing impurities such as the so called nicotine and at the same time cooling and moistening the smoke before it enters the mouth of the user.

It is also my aim to provide a pipe of this lclass which lembodies a bowl for containing the fluid` which may be water or oil,

the latter' fluid being highly desirable ink that it may be in the form of a sweet oil containing a small portionA of an essentialoil for the purpose of deodorizing the smoke and at the same time perfuming and flavoring the same so that the smoker will be treated to a clean sweet and nicely perfumed smoke. y

One of the important features of the in ventionis the provision of a structure which is such in size and shape to permit it to be held in the hand or laid upon a table during the smoking operation, the same being provided either with the customary short stem or with flexible tubingfor conveying smoke to any suitable point.

Another feature of the invention isl the rotatable cup through which the smoke is compelled to pass before being conducted through the water, this cup being such in construction and so corelated with the other details of the device that it constitutes `a. valve and serves to prevent water from entering the stem in the event that the device is accidentally capsized.

A further advantage and feature of the invention isderived from the provision of an exceedingly simple structure wherein the parts are so connected as to permit ready separation for cleaning, refilling with water or tobacco. Y

Referring now. to the drawings invdetail, referenceV character 1 designates a `suitably rshaped. water receptacle 'which is provided` with an internal cup receiving shell 2. This receptacle has removable plug 3 at its bottom and is provided' on one side with a lat eral4 extension 4 to which the stem 5 is connected in any suitable manner. This exten# sion is of course bored toform a smoke paspage for alignment'with the smoke passage in the stem. Also, theshell 2 is provided with anopening opposite the inner end of the smoke passage to permit a restricted passage of smoke therethrough. VTo one side of 4thes mokepassage'and formed in the eX- tension 4 is a pocket for reception of a ref movable'pipe cleaner 6. The upper portion 0f the water receptacle is shaped to accommodate a removable tobacco containing bowl 7, the reduced lower end of this bowl being provided with a smoke'escape port 8 lined with a similar port 9 formed in the aforesaid shell 2. Although it is not'essential, the bottom yof the shell 2 is preferably shaped in the manner shown and is provided with another port 10 through which smoke enters the shell after passing through theJ water WV in the receptacle.

Removably fitted into the cup shaped shell 2 is a vcup 11 having a removable closure 12. The bottom' of the cup is shapedto conform to the corresponding part of the shell and. is provided with a hole 13 adapted to register with the hole 10 for permitting free passage of smoke therethrough. The cup is divided internally by a concavo-convex partition 14 forming upper and lower chambers, a short pipe 15 is carried by the Wall of the upper chamber and normally aligns with the holes 8 and 9. A similar pipe orconduit 16 is carried by the wall of the lowery compartment and normally aligns the smoke passage of the stem.
