STOCKING-PRYING} DEVICE.
mo est.
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH M. Litr- ERICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Watsonville, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking-Drying Devices; and I do hereby 'declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in a device whereby apluraIity of stockings,
socks or the like may be supported andatw tached to a clothes line in such a manner as to permit them to be efficiently dried.
A further object of this invention is to provide a stocking supporting device which is capable of holding a plurality of pairs of stockings, socks or the like in such a manner as to obviate the tearing thereof due to attachment to the line.
Another object of this invention is to provide a stocking drying device which includes a supporting member upon which a plural ity of pairs of stockings or the like may be arranged and having a plurality of clasps adapted to removably secure the stocking supporting device to a clothes line, thus occupying a comparatively small space.
A further object of this invention is to provide a stocking supporting device of this character, which will be simple, practlcal and comparatively inexpensive in construction and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended. i i
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my mproved stocking drying device illustratlng the same assembled and attached to a supporting line. y
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectlonal view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.1
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view illustrating the device attached to the supporting line in a different manner.
Like numerals of reference designate cor-- responding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

Pate ted J n- 51 Application filed February 2?, 191a. s i no. 219,418.
I lteferringto the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a stocking supporter 1n its entlrety which constructedof. a single length of material such as Iwire onthelike. The memher is coiled intermediate its ends asat .6 to provide the lower supporting bar 7 and the upper attaching bar 8. The free end of the attachingbaris bent to provide a keeper 9 which is adapted to; receive the supporting retain thelatter therein afterthe stockingshave been arranged upon the said bar. The terminal of the supporting bar termlnates into an insertion point 10 to facilitate the ready insertion of the said bar through suitable loops sewed to the stockings, socks or the like so as to render it easy to place the stockings, socks or the like upon this bar to render them capable of being quickly dried and to also avoid tearing or otherwise injuring the stockings or the like when applying them to the supporting device.
A plurality of substantially U-- shaped supporting clamps are provided and are adapted to be slidably secured to the at taching bar 8. The U-shaped clasps 11 have pivotally connected in their webs by one end the shanks 12 and the free ends of these shanks terminate into the eyes 13 which slidably receive the upper attaching bar 8. The arms of the U-zshaped members curve inwardly as at 13 and outwardly as at 14 to provide the rope engaging portions. The terminals of the rope engaging portions are curved outwardly as at 15 to provide guides whereby said Clasps may be easily snapped upon a supporting line, designated A in the 5 in such a position as to permit the stockings or the like carried by the bar 7 to be quickly and efliciently dried.
It will be understood that by virtue of the pivotal connection of the member 12 with the webs of the lJ-shaped clasps that the member 5 may be turned at any angle with relation thereto, thus providing means whereby the same may be supported in a comparativelysmall space.
()ne of the clasp members has pivotally secured to its web and depending therefrom a hook 14:, this hook constituting a brace, and" is adapted to have its free end removably secured to the supporting bar to retain the same against relative lateral movement.
In use, the member 10 is released from the keeper 9 and the stockings or the like have sewed thereto suitable loops Whichloops are arranged over the bar 7 and the bar 7 replaced in the keeper 9 and by virtue of the elasps the device is fastened to the supporting line A and the stockings are quickly and readily dried.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: i I 1. A drying device of the class described including asupportingmember, a plurality of clasps slidably mounted upon said supporting member; and a brace pivotally secured to one of said clasps and adapted to be removably attached to the supporting member to retainthe same against tilting or.
lateral displacement.
2. A drying device including a supporting member having an upper attaching bar and a lower supporting bar, means for re- Oc'pies of this patent may be obtained for "the supporting member may be removably attached to a line, and a pivoted brace hook carried by one of the eyes of one clasp and adapted to engage the supporting rod of thesupporting member to retain the same against tilting or displacement with relation thereto.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature 1 in presence of two witnesses.
