Description

PATENTED JAN. 9, 1906.
S. J. WEVBR.
TABLE SPREAD SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 23. 1905.
r e W W J Wammm TABLE-SPREAD SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed August 23, 1905. Serial N0. 275,469.
Patented Jan. 9, 1906.
5 Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Spread Supports,
' of which the'following is a specification.
This inventionembodies an improved su port for use upon dining-tables particular y and designed to sup ort a cover or cloth over the dishes on the ta 1e.
The spread-supports heretofore devised have been found 1m racticable to a certain extent because of t e expensive structures I used and, further, on account 'of the fact that the same are not affixed to the table, but can be readily displaced therefrom in placing the spread in plcizsition or removing the same, giving rise to elihood of breaking of the dishes,
2 and possessing other disadvantages.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a lmowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is 5 to be had to the following description and ac companying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a perspective view showing the invention applied to a table. Fi 2 is a vertical section through the table, showing one 3 of the supports comprising the invention.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the supports comprising the invention.
Corresponding and like parts are'rcferred to in the followin description and indicated '35 in all the views 0 the drawings by the same reference characters.
In the actual adaptation of-the invention t it is designed that two. supports be used for the ordinary dining-table in order to hold the 4 spread above the same for the urpose hereinbefore set forth. Each of t ese supports comprises a frame 1 of curved or somewhat V form, said frame 1 embodying downwardlyextending arms 2. The frame 1 is preferably of integral formation, and in order that the same may be of the cheapest ractical form it is preferred that it be made 0 a single length of spring-wire bent u on itself between its ends to form a plura 'ty of coils 3,
- 5 which constitute a'spring. The arms 2 of the frame 1 are coiled at a point between the ends thereof to form loops 4; which also tend to give a spring action to the arms, resisting the spread thereof. The supporting-frame 1 l is adapted to be secured to the table (indicated at 5) and when in position thereon Will].
be rigid for all purposes, so that the spread 6 (shown indotted lines) maybe readily thrown upon the table. or removed therefrom withv out displacing the frames 1. The arms 2 have hooks 7 at the lower extremities thereof, and these hooks are adapted to engage opposite edge portions of the table to positively hold the frame 1 in position thereon, the spring action of the parts 3 and 4 being such as to cause the necessary engagement of the hooks 7, as above described.
In order that the frame 1 may be held in an upright position on the table, the hooks 7 have the terminal ortions thereof extending 7o laterally to form t 'e extensions 8, projecting in opposite directions, and these extensions by ositive engagement with the under side of t c table 5 brace the frame 1 and prevent it from tilting toward one side or the other.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is l. A table-spread support comprising a frame embodying integra spring-arms, hooks carried by the said arms for engagement with a table and so connected with the arms as to be held in such engagement by the s ring action thereof, and members carrie b the hooks for holding the frame in an uprig t position.
2; A tablespread support comprising a frame composed of oppositely-extending arms, hooks at. the ends of said arms for engagement with a table to attach the frame thereto, and extensions projecting laterally 0 from the hooks for cooperation with the ob- 'ect engaged thereby to brace the frame and old it in an upright position when affixed t0 the table.
3. A table-spread support comprising a frame composed of oppositely-extendmg arms, and hooks at the ends of said arms for engagement with a table to attach the frame thereto, each hook being extended laterally to form a brace extension for holding the :00 frame in. an upri ht position, the brace extensions of the hoo s projecting in opposite directions.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a table-spread support comprisin an integral :05 frame embodying opposite y-extending curved arms made from a single length of spring-wire, the wire being coiled upon itself at a point between its ends to form a spring for the arms, each arm being coiled to form a spring-loop, the lower extremities of each arm being formed with an integral hook, the 5 terminals of each hook being extended later allyin opylilosite directions to form brace meml bers for t e purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
