ISAAC H. FROST, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CHAIN-LINK CLOTH ES-LIN E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,400, dated November 1'7, 1891.
Application filed July 24, 1891. Serial No. 400,577. (No inodel.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC H. FROST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Metallic Clothes-Line, of which the following is a specification.
Reference being had to the accompanying side-elevation drawing, A is a metallic link having an eye a, formed at each end for connecting directly with adjacent links, or by an intervening ring b'for forming a continuouslink clothes-line, which by reason of its construction can be folded into a small compass when not in use.
B is a clothes-hanger formed of a single piece of wire 0, doubled at the middle and bent into a two-part hook d, which parts extend divergingly upward, and, forming a shank e, subsequently branch off oppositelyinto'braces or arms f, rigidly fastened to the link A for supporting the shank and hook and keeping them from swinging either way.
For drying and airing, the wash-clothes are suspended from and between the hooks d, and when they are all occupied the angle g, formed by the divergence of the parts of wire composing the shank, can be utilized by suspending from it. For that reason said angle should be small, the spring or elasticity of the wires of the shank holding the articles so suspended.
I elaim- A metallic clothes-line formed of connected links,in combination with hangers, each composed of asingle wire doubled and bent to form a two-part hook and shank and branched oft oppositely into braces, the ends of which are rigidly fastened to a link to support the hanger and keep it from swinging.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC H. FROST.
