IMPRCJVEMENT IN BRAlD-GUIDES FOR SEWING-MACHINESi Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,825, dated July 9, 1872.
Specication describing anew and Improved Braid-Guidefor Sewing-Machines, invented by EDDY T. THOMAS, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts.
My invention consists in the arrangement, Within a sloping or diagonal slot in the presser-foot, of a cylindrical guide-piece, provided with a circumferential V-shaped groove and adapted to be turned or rotated on its axis, whereby the passage for the braid may be enlarged or contracted in width to accommodate wide or narrow braids, as hereinafter described.

A is the presser-foot, with a Wide hole, B, through it from top to bottom in front of the needle-hole G and sloping downward toward it. D is a little cylinder fitted in a hole through .the presser from side to side, and traversing this hole B. Said cylinder has a V-shaped groove, E, formed on it circumferentially, and
arranged so that the angle coincides with the line of the seam and points in the direction from 4which the cloth feeds when on the upper side of the cylinder, which said groove forms the passage for the braid to the needle, the said passage being bounded on three sides by the wall of the groove and on the other side by the wall of hole B next to the needle-hole. The cylinder is so tted that it can be turned readily to bring a wider or narrower portion of the groove to the upper side, over which the braid passes. The passage or guide is vthereby adjusted for wide or narrow braid.
