WLADYSLAW SLAWSKI, 0F GLASSBORO, NEW JERSEY.
PISTOL-SWORD.
Application filed July 17, 1918.
the county of Gloucester and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pistol-Swords, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a combined sword and pistol in which substantially the usual form of automatic pistol is employed and the device is readily operable for shooting bullets as well as employment after the usual manner of a sword.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a sword provided with a shooting member without materially adding to the weight of the sword and without interfering with the use of the latter, while the entire structure is neat in appearance and possesses great strength as well as serviceability as a combined weapon.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a pistol sword in which the pistol member may be detached and separately employed for shooting purposes when desired, while the pistol provides a handle for the sword and is readily operable as a firearm when the device is assembled.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device with the pistol illustrated by dotted lines disassembled Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the hilt portion of the sword including the pistol with connecting parts broken away;
Fig. is a sectional view taken upon line IV-IV of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken through the sword blade with side portions broken away;
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line VIVI of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the hilt of the sword with the pistol detached and the blade broken away.
My invention provides a sword blade 10 carried by the pommel portion 11 of a h1lt 12 having a hand guard 13 attached to one end of said pommel. An automatic plstol 14: is adapted for detachable connection with the hilt 12 with the barrel 15 of the pistol Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3, 1918.
Serial No. 245,436.
positioned within the longitudinal slot 16 of the pommel l1 and beneath an arched connecting portion 17 of the blade 10 as well as extending through an opening 18 of a yoke 19 at the end of the pommel adjacent the point of connection of the guard 13 therewith.
An enlargement or bead 20 closes the slot 16 at the opposite end of the pommel 11 from the yoke 19 while the rear end 21 of the pistol barrel is positioned slightly spaced from the bead 20 when the device is assembled. At such times, the lower end of the stock 22 of the pistol seats within a U-shaped socket 23 at'the free end of the guard 13 and parallel with the pommel 11, an inwardly projecting ledge 24: being provided in said socket upon which the free end of the stock 22 is adapted to rest.
The pistol 14: is readily assembled upon the hilt 12 in the manner described and secured in position by means of screws 25 extending through the sides of the socket 23 into the stock 22 as well as screws 26 positioned through the sides of the member 17 and yoke 19 into the barrel 15. When the device is so assembled, the stock 22 also serves as the grip portion of the sword hilt and by means of which the blade 10 may be wielded in the usual manner while a finger may be readily placed upon the trigger 27 of the pistol 14 for shooting the pistol. It will also be understood that the pistol 14 may be reloaded by renewing the cartridge magazine in the stock 22 through the opening 28 in the bottom of the socket 23. The entire device is light in weight but is readily employed either as a sword or pistol when the occasion requires.
What I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a hilt'formed of a pommel having a hand guard extending therefrom, the said pommel having a longitudinal slot therein, an arch at the end of the pommel adjacent the guard adapted for the reception of a pistol barrel therethrough when positioned within said slot, a bead member closing the opposite end of the pommel. a sword blade mounted upon the pommel at opposite sides of the slot and cutaway therebetween for the accommodation of a pistol barrel when the device is assembled, and a receiving socket for the removable reception of the butt of a pistol stock carried by the free end of said guard parallel with the pommel.
2. A device of the class described comprising a hilt formed of a pommel having a hand guard extending therefrom, the said .pommel having a longitudinal slot therein,
an arch at the end of the pommel adjacent the guard adapted for the reception of a pistol barrel therethrough whenpositioned within said slot, a bead member closing the opposite end of the pommel, a sword blade mounted upon the pommel at opposite sides of the slot and cutaway therebetween for the accommodation of a pistol barrel when the device is assembled, a receiving socket for the removable reception of the butt of, a pistol stock carried by the free end of said guard parallel with the pommel, a pistol mountedupon said hilt with the barrel of the pistol within said slot and cutaway portion and projecting through said arch and with the stock of the pistol seated. within said socket, and securing means projecting through said yoke and socket into the said pistol.
- 3. A'wea-pon comprising a hilt having a slotted polnmel and a hand guard extending therefrom, a sword blade projecting from the pommel, a U-shaped socket at the free end of the, hand guard, a pistol removably positioned with its barrel in the slot of the pommel and its stock seated in said socket In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. 40:
