EXTENSION-STOCK FOR PISTOLS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAv ADoLr SACHS, a citizen of the, German Empire, and resident of Eugene, in the county of Lane and State of Oregon, have inyented certain new and useful Improvements, in Extension- Stocks for Pistols, of which the following is a specification. 1 U
,My 'nvention ha for its object to provide a stock adapted for connection with a pistol so. as to enable the latter to be used after the fashion of a gun or rifle, with the stock resting against the ,persons shoulder,
whereby the taking of proper aim:is facilitated and greater accuracy of fire is obtained owing to the increased steadiness of the weapon. The improved stock has an eflicient connecting device ,so that it may become rigid with the pistol when in position for shooting, yet the pistol and stock are readily disconnected, then forming two separate; partsfof relatively small dimensions and in this dismembered condition 1.J- the pistol and stock may be carried in a pocket, or packed and shipped more readily than in theconnected condition. In a preferred embodiment of my invention, the
stock is constructed as a holster inwhich .1 the pistol isreceived and carried when not in :use, thus obtaining an arrangement of remarkab'le simplicity and convenience.
. Two examples of the new extension stock are illustrated in the accompanying draw- 11 ings, in which,
Figure 1 is an outside view of a pistol connected .with the improved extension stock, the latter also forming a holster for said pistol Fig. 2 1s a longitudinal vertical section through said holster-stock;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section substantially ,online 33 of Fig. 2; l
l Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4-4: of F g l a Fig. .5 is an outside view of another form in which the. stock does not form a holster; and
Fig. 6 is a partial top view of this second construction.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4 the holster has a casin or cover 10 made of leather or other suitable material, and of the proper shape to receive the'pistol, say a Lueger automatic pistol 11, which whennot in use is Specification. of Letters Patent.

contained in said holster. At 10 I have indlcated the usual flap which i fastened by a strap and buckle 12 or other suitable.
means when the holster is closed. In its general outline, this holster need not differ materially from those in common use.
According to my invention, the following construction is adopted to enable the holster to be used as an extension stock for the pistol. The front wall of the holster, and its bottom wall, are formed by a suitably molded or fashioned piece or stiffener 13 of fiber or other suitable, relatively rigid, material, the two edges of the leather case or cover 10 being riveted to this stiffener 13.
The frontedge of the stiffener is ciirved both longitudinally (Fig. 2) and transversely (Fig. 3) to form a socket or seat 13 for the handle ll'. of the pistol, and preferably a projection-l3 is provided atthe lower end of said socket to form a stop for the end of said handle. To the top of the stiffener 13 is secured, within the cover (say by means of screws 14) a longitudinal brace 15 made for instance of steel. The rear end of said brace projects beyond the top member 10 of the leather case and is formed into an eye 15 to receive a transversely projecting pin 16, constituting a pivot for an elastic butt member 17, curved as shown to fit the rear portion of the case 10, and also to extend forwardly as at 17, to connect with the rear end of the stifi'ener 13, which has a groove 13 to receive the free end of the member 17 ,17 This member is a strong strip of steel of a width corresponding to the inside width of the leather case, and the vertical portion of this member fits against the rear wall of the case when the latter is closed, while between said rear wall and the rear end of the stiffener 123 the inside of the case is closedonly bythe portion 17 of said member, so that if the latter is swung on thepivot-16 to the position indicated by dotted lines (as it may be when the flap 10 is open) a wide opening will be left for inserting the pistol in the holster, or removing it therefrom. The opening in the front of the case normally covered by the flap, is preferably made with an oblique edge extending to the rear end of the stiffener 13, the size of the opening for the insertion and removal of the pistol is thus further increased. 2 also indicates in dotted lines may, thereby allowingthepist'ol tobe withthe longitudinal rigi 50 I tatingthetaking of careful ain' and insure the position (if; thepistol within thechols'ter' when the latter-is closed, and shows that-chef bend at the lowerportion of the butt-menn ber 17 closely fits the'end of the handle 11,
and thus keeps the pistol from shiftingwithin the holster. 'At its front portion, the holster is provided with a transverse opening 18)- extending through the ,stifiener 13 and they 1 leather cover. Through this opening 1 passed a screw'19'having-a head 19""a t one" end, and on the screw 'are'fitted the per-i forat'ed end members of a looped pistol ,hoIderQQnIade of spring steel'or like ma-l' vte'ria1 The "screw" shank 'is' preferably squared adj'acentto the head'19as'at' 19, and
fitted into a square opening of the adjacent end of the'holderlo p QO; so that the hol derl will be compelled to turn withithe" screw.
ferrule "'19"*which fits into the opening 1 8 is screwed on the screw 19f and retainsthe) holder'20on the square portion'ofthe screw} Thefree end' of the'screw 19 receives anufl 5 21 provided with a milled head 2 1"""orl' other jsuitable-imeans for turning it; and extending into the Opening 1t. 1 The outer surfaee of the ferrule and screw are sllghtly'taperedl r toward their .inner, ends an men they Tare loosened the holder has' play enough 1 to 'permitinsertion of'the pistol; and
tightening the thumb nut'ithepistol is gripped securely; Preferably "a Washe'r 22 'l is fitted :on' the screw19,"exteriorly"olf-the case ftobe engaged bythe inner face of the 'nut 21' and the outer face of thefadja'cent 'm'e'inber of the loop 20. "This loopvisiof such sh'ap eand' length as to properly embrace and clainpthe'handle of the pistol. 11 against the l so'cket ,13,in the position Fig.1.
