Description

Dec. 25, 1923. 1,478,568
S. KAPERZENSKI COMBINED SWORD AND REVOLVER Filed March 19; 1925 IN VENTOR S/(aperyenskz ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 25, 1923. I
- sKI,
' and Revolvers, of which the following is a UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STQ NLEY KAPERZENSKI, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED SWORD AND REVOLVER.
Application filed March 19, 1923. Serial No. 626,181.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY KAPERZEN- a citizen of Poland, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Swords specification, I
This invention relates to improvements in sabres, swords and the like, and has for its principal object to provide means for removably attaching a firearm thereto.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for attaching the firearm to the sabre without altering its construction in any way whatsoever.
Still another object of the invention resides in the provision of a device having a handle from which the blade may be detached for storage or transportation.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 illustrates the device encased i a sheath.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail, fragmentary side view of the device.
igure 4 is an end view of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail fragmentary sectional view through the device.
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
.Figure 7 is a perspective view of the clamp nut.
"Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates in its entirety the handle of the device which comprises a grip 11 and guard 12. Extending longitudinally from one end of the grip is a socket member"13 provided in one longitudinal edge with a groove 14. 1
Formed on the guard 12 is an extension 15 provided with a slot 16, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
A blade 17 is provided adjacent its rear end with an arcuate portion 18, the innermost edge of which is provided with laterally extending flanges 19. The end of the arcuate portion, opposite that joining the blade, is provided with a tongue 20 adapted groove 14 previously of said clamp is an inwardly extending arm 24 having a rearwardly extending finger 25 for engagement with the underside of the ton e 22.
' ormed at the rear end of. the clamp23 is a rearwardly extending tongue 26, adapted to be received in the slot 16 previously described and a thumb screw 27 rojects into the threaded opening 28 ofthe 0 amp nut 29.
This clamp nut comprises a substantially cylindrical body 30 formed with plates 31 on opposite sides and at. the outer end with spaced parallel arms 32 formed with upwardly extending fingers 33.
Formed on the underside of the blade 17 near the arcuate portion 18, are a. pair of customary pivot 41 and latch 42.
A notch 43 is formed in the underside of the blade to accommodate the latch 42, so as to allow its free movement when opening In assembling the device, the ton e 20 of the arcuate portion 18 of the blade 17 is seated in the groove 14 in the socket 13, and the clamp 23 is then clamped in position by inserting the tongue 26 into the slot 16 and thearm 24 into the notch 21.
By turning the. thumb screw 27 it Willbe seen that the arm 24 will'be drawn rearwardly, bringing the finger 25 into the space below the tongue 22 and upon further turning the thumb screw, the whole 'will be firmly clamped together.
The gun may be readily removed or replaced by sliding the rib 36 into and out of the dove tail groove between the flanges 34. I
and closing the gun frame.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A device of the class described comprising a blade,.a handle, a socket member on the handle, an arcuate extension on the rear end of the blade, a tongue adapted to seat in the socket member, a-rcuate plate clamping means, and a thumb screw 00-.
operating with the handle and arcuate clamping means to hold the blade in place.
2. A device of the class described comprising a blade, a, handle, a guard on the handle, a socket member on the handle, an arcuate extension on the rear end of the blade, a tongue on, the arcuate extension adapted to seat in the socket member, an arcuate clamp member, and means associated therewith projecting through the guard for clamping the whole together;
3. A device of the class described comprising a blade, a handle removably secured thereto, an arcuate extension at the rear end of the blade, a pistol, and means carried by the blade for securing the pistol to the blade adjacent the arcuate extension.
4. A device of the class described comprising a blade, a handle removably secured thereto, an arcuate extension on the blade adjacent the handle, flanges on the blade adjacent the concave portion of the arcuate extension, a pistol having a barrel, and a rib on the pistol barrel adapted to be received between the flanges.
In witness whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
STANLEY KAPERZENSKI.
