JOHN SAWCHYN, 0F PASSAIG, NEW JERSEY.
To all whom it mag concern: Be it known that I, JOHN SAWOHYN, a sub ject' of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new *and useful Improvements in Pistol-Swords, of which the following is a specification.
tively carried within the hilt of the sword ready for immediate use when required.
A further object of the invention the provision of a sword adapted fonreadily carrying a pistol adapted for llnmeCllilllellSB,
the sword being easy and inexpensive to manufacture and only slightly heavier than the usualArmysword or saber.
With these general objects in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation with parts broken away;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof with the swinging portion of the grip illustrated by dotted lines in its open position;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with parts broken away, illustrating the pistol positioned within the hilt with a portlon of the pistol barrel broken away;
Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views of the invention taken upon lines IVIV and V-V of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 6 is a rear elevational view of the invention.
My invention includes a sword havlng a blade 10 provided with a hilt consist-mg of a two-part grip 11 having a curved hand guard 12 extended as at 13 adjacent the base of the blade 10 forming a pommel. The main portion 14 of the grip 11 has a blade 10 integrally carried thereby and pro ecting forwardly thereof through the guard extension 13, which extension is secured by means of screws 15 to said grip portlon or section 14. The rear free end of the guard 12 is secured by means of screws 16 to the curved butt or angular free end 17 of the grip section 14.
' ancewithin the hand guard 12 hous ng portions 22 and 23 carried by the PISTOL-SWORD.

point of attachmentwith the butt 17. The butt '17 of the grip section 14 is secured in fiat engagement with the said ledge 20 while a slot 21 1n the extension 13 at the opposite end of the hand guard accommodates the blade l0'pro ecting therethrou 'h.
is provided with a protuberconsisting of The grip l1 grip sections 14'and 18 respectively. These housing port ons when closed form a housing having a receiving chamber 24 which taken together with a chamber portion 25 formed 1n the grip sections 14 and 18 are adapted for the removable reception of auto matic pistols 26. The barrel 27 of the pistol is longitudinally positioned within the grip 11 of the hilt and a perforation 28 through the extension 13 at one side of the blade 10 is adapted for alinement with the bore 29 of the barrel 27 when the pistol is mounted within the hilt. The muzzle of the barrel 27 frictionally engages the inner face of the extension 13 and the bore 29 being of slightly less diameter than the perforation 28, the bullets from the pistol will freely pass through the said perforation.
An opening 30 is provided in the side of the grip section 14 through which the ex tracted shells are adapted to pass from the pistol barrel 27 while a finger-receiving opening 31 is provided in the housing section 23 for gaining access to the trigger 32 of the pistol 26, it being understood that the stock 33 of the pistol is snugly engaged within the chamber 24 with the barrel 27 in the chamber 25 when the section 18 is closed with the device assembled. A resilient latch 34 is carried by one side of the extension 13 having a wedge-shaped retainer 35 extending through a slot 36 in said extension and adapted for overlying the V The hilt'll mayv be readily grasped for wielding the blade and wheneverdesi'red,-' the pistol 26 may be positioned within the hilt for immediate usev in firingby' pulling jblade' carried by the forward copies of this patent may beobtained for lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings and at which times the pistol 26 maybe readily removed from the chambers 24, 25 of the hilt 11..-
upon thetrigger 32 by means of the finger inserted through the opening 31. The pistol is entirely protected whenincased in this manner within the grip of the sword, and
the invention provides a double weapon that is light in Weight and readily serviceable as either a sword or pistol when. desired.
What I claim asnew is Y 1. 'A pistol sword Comprising a grip formed of a main section and a pivoted section and provlded w1th a pistol-recelving chamber-therein, a curved hand guard secured at one" end to vthe butt of the main grip sectionan d having an extensionat its opposite end fOII IIlDg apommel secured to the forward end ofthe main rip section, a end offsaid main section extending through said extension, mounting means u on the guard .for
