COMBINED FIREAB-M AND BOXER.
Application filed February 11, 1909.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. ie, i912.
Serial No. 477,433.
T 0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BLA KREITH, count, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Budapest, in the Kingdom of Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Firearms and Boxers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a combined fire arm and knuckle duster and will be described more fully with reference to the annexed drawing, which shows as an example two embodiments of my invention applied on a pistol.
Figure l shows one form in side elevation, Fig. 2 another form ready for thrusting.
l is the knuckle duster shaped in a manner to be fitted to the stock 2 of the pistol. The knuckle duster has for this purpose an extension 3 engaging the bottom part 4 of the stock, while the front end 5 of the knuckle duster is adapted to engage the guard 6. Suitable means are provided for securing the knuckle duster on the pistol. In the drawing a screw 7 is shown engaging a screwthreaded boring of the guard 6. However any other means for instance clamps may be used instead of the screw.
At the bottom part of the knuckle duster a thrust blade 8 may be arranged pivotally on a pivot 9 parallel -with or perpendicular to the plane of the blade. When the thrust blade is not used it fits closely the side face of the stock or may also enter a recess of the side face of the latter, so that the blade does not project from the surface of the stock.
The dotted lines show the position of the fingers of the hand when the pistol is used. The fore finger 10 rests on trigger 11 within the guard, while the other fingers 12 are passed through the opening 13 formed between the knuckle duster and the stock of the pistol.
In Fig. 1 the knuckle duster is shown as an attachment applicable to pistols, however the knuckle duster may be manufactured in one piece with the pistol as shown in Fig. 2. In this latter embodiment instead of the one opening 13, every one of the ngers 12 has a separate opening 14, 15 and 16. In Fig. 2 the blade 8 is shown in its position ready for use.
The forms shown in the drawing are only. examples and the construction may be varied in different manners without departing from my invention. Thus for instance the knuckle duster may or may not be fitted with the thrust blade. Further there can be Yprovided a spring snap to secure the blade in its rest or working posit-ion.
My invention can be applied on every kind of hand fire arm with short barrel viz. revolvers, repeating pistols such as the' well known Browning pistols, etc.
The combined knuckle duster and pistol is a complete arm for defense the advantagesof which are the following: l. The knuckle duster serves for defense when the car tridges are exhausted or if the pistol missed lire. 2. The knuckle duster protects the hand and may be used to ward sword blows. 3. The knuckle duster insures a strong grip so that the arm cannot be easily wrenched from ones hand. 4. The blade 8 enables the arm to be used as a thrust arm if the necessity occurs therefor.
I-Iaving described my invent-ion, what I claim is:
l. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pistol butt; a knuckle duster secured thereto and adapted for protection and passage of the fingers, the upper part of the duster forming a trigger guard; and a thrust blade pivoted to the lower part of the duster and adapted to be extended or to be folded against the side of the butt, in which position it may be held by the fingers and thumb holding the butt.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pistol butt; a detachable knuckle duster secured thereto and adapted for the protection and passage of the fingers in front of the butt, the upper part of the butt forming a trigger guard and the lower end of the duster being extended rearwardly and engaging under and secured to the butt and provided with a recess; a pivot pin passing through said recess substantially perpendicular to the butt; and a thrustblade pivotally mounted on said pin perpendicular thereto and adapted to be moved in alinement with the butt or against and parallel to the side thereof, in which position it may be held in place by the thumband finger grasping the butt.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a pistol butt; a detachable lmuckle-duster secured thereto and provided with a series of openings, one for each finger, and with a rearward extension engaging under the butt and provided with a recess, the uppermost of said openings being horizontally elongated and forming the trigger guard; a pivot pin passing through said recess substantially perpendicular to the axis of the butt; and a thrust-blade piv-Y otally mounted at its inner end on said pin perpendicular thereto and adapted to be moved in substantial alinementtherewith, said blade being also adapted to be pivotally moved parallel to and flat against the side of the butt, in which position it may be held in place by the thumb and the ends ot the fingers grasping the butt and duster.
t. In a. device of the class described, the combination of a pistol-butt; a detachable knuckle-cluster having an opening for each finger, and a rearward extension engaging under and secured to the lower end of the pistol-butt and proridedat its lower part with a recess, the uppermost opening being elongated horizontally and forming the Copies of this patent may be obtaine for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,V
