APPAREL-HANGER-SUPPORTING BRACKET FOR WARDROBE-TRUNKS.
- Spcificatibnof LettersPatent.
Patented Nov. 1a, 1918.
Application filed June 10, 1918. Serial No. 239,330.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX SrooKov, a. subject of Russia, residing in the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparel-Hanger-Supporting Brackets for Wardrobe-Trunks, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to supporting brackets for apparel hangers particularly adapted for use in wardrobe trunks, and it is the object of the invention to provide an improved hanger supporting-bracket of this character which is readily adjustable to form a compact structure to be inclosed in the trunk and being adjustable to be withdrawn from the trunk to extend out from the trunk and support the hangers with'apparel in such position to facilitate the placing of apparel on the hangers and into the and to provide a hanger support which is novel, simple and cheap in construction and efficient in use.
In the drawing accompanying and forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is. a front elevation of a wardrobe trunk,
partly open and one section of the trunk in section, with my improved hanger support applied thereto showing in full lines the position of the support when the trunk is to be closed, and indotted lines in adjusted position to facilitate the placing of apparel hangers thereon and remove the same.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the hanger support adjusted to position to be withdrawn from the trunk; and
Fig. 3 is. an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the lines 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar characters of reference designate like parts throughout the different views of the drawingw In the drawing I have shown my invention applied to a wardrobe trunk consisting as usual of a pair of hingedly connected section 4 and 5, the section 5 being provided with a series of drawers 6 and the section 4 being arranged to contain apparel carried -by hangers supported by brackets carried in said section of the trunk.
I have shown an embodiment of myinvention in connection with a trunk of this character, comprising a .rod 10 having a plate or bracket 11 secured at the end and an angle bracket 12 to which the rod is secured supp adjacent the opposite end and by means of which brackets 11 and 12 the rod is secured in fixed positionto the back and side walls of the trunk section 4. In practice there are two of the hanger supporting brackets provided, one adjacent each side wall of the trunk section 4, but for thepurpose of convenience of illustration and describing the invention only one of the brackets is shown.
The hanger support comprises a pair of movably connected sections or bars 14: and 15 whereby the sections may be adjusted to extend at an angle to each other to permit of the inclosing of the saine'in' the trunk when closed, and adjusted to extend in a direction to form a continuation of each other to facilitate the placing and removal of hangers carrying apparel supported upon the ort.
f The bar 14 of the support is in the form of-a channel bar bent up from sheet metal to substantially U-shape in cross section, as shown in Fig 8. This bar is mounted upon the rod 10 with the open side of the channel bar downward whereby the bar is adapted to have longitudinal sliding movement on the rod, the walls of the channel bar being connected by pins 16 and which also serve as stops to engage with the bracket 12 to limit the outward movement of the channel bar.,
Secured within the channel portion of the bar 14: at the forward end to extend beyond said end of the bar and laterally or downward thereof is an arm or ear 17 which may consist of a pair of connected and spaced plates, or may be a single piece of metal bent upon itself for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The section ormember 15 is also of channel -shape bent up from sheet metal the same as the bar 14, and is arranged to straddle the extension 17 at its inner end and pivotally connected thereto, as at 18, whereby said member 15 is adapted to have movement on its pivot support to move said bar to the position shown infull lines in Fig. 1 to permit of the closing of the trunk sections, or to move said barto the position tion of the bar 14 there is provided a latch 20 "pivotally supported at one end to one side of the pivotal connection of the bar sections 14 and 15, as at 21 by theextension 17, said latch being arranged to have a part to engag'e'in the channel'portion of the bar 15 and having a notch or recess 22 to engage a pin extending transversely .or-said bar;
The free end of the latch is formed with a finger piece 24 to project from the channel portion of the bar whereby to manipulate the latch to free it from the pin 23 to permit of the moving of the channel bar member 15 to the position shown in full lines in Fi 1. r
'The normal position of the support with the trunk sections in closed position is as shown in Fig. 1 With the channel bar section 15 of the support extending at an angle to and downward from the channel bar 14. As the trunk is opened to remove the hangers with the apparel, the channel. bar 15 is raised to the position shown in Fig. 2, this upward movement being limited by the end or said bar section abutting against the end of the bar section 14. During theupward movement or the bar section 15 the latch 20 is movedupward therewith by the engagement thereof with the pin 22, and as the bar-15 reaches the limit of its upward move ment the latch notch 22 will engage the pin 23 whereby the latch not only serves as a supporting bracket for said channel bar section 15 but also to retain or look it in such position. In this position the hanger sections 14 and 15 may be pulled outward to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 together with, any hangers thereon by the section 14 moving along the rod 10, any
Weight on said bars, such as hangers with apparel, being taken up by the pins 16 engaging with the rod. To cause the hangers on the channel bar sections 14, 15 to move with said bars the barsection 14 has an upwardly turned flange 26 to serve as a stop for the hangers, and the outer end of the bar 15 also has an upwardly extending flange27v at the outer end in the form of disk carried by a stud secured in the channel portion of the bar. To adjust the supporting bracket to close the trunk the bars 14, 15 are moved from the dotted line position. in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2, when the latch notch 22 is thrown out of engagement with the pin 23 by lifting the latch by the finger piece 24, when the bar section 15 may be moved to the full line posit on shown in Fig. 1 and in position to permit of the closing of the trunk.
Having thus described ,my invention, I claim: I
