INVENTOR WITNESSES 9 ATTORNEY -ji hi I CARL s. notmsoiv, or BARBE aron, OHIO.
COMB-CLEANER.
Application filedDecember 3,1917. Serial No. 205,252.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a comb cleaner and has for its principal object the provision of a device which is simple and inexpensive in construction for cleaning dirt from between the teeth of combs.
A further object is the provision of means for holding the comb in position while being cleaned.
Another object is the provision of means for securing the cleaner to the wall or other suitable support and means for removing the dirt from the cleaner.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the cleaner, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line 33 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates a cylindrical casing which is closed at one end and open at the opposite end, the open end being exteriorly threaded to receive an interiorly threaded cap 2. The closed end of the casing and the cap are each provided with a central opening the purpose of which will be presently described. An elongated opening 3 is formed in the front of the casing 1 and pins 4 are secured across the opening 3 adjacent each end thereof for the purpose as will be presently described. Eyes 5 are formed above the opening 3 and similar eyes 6 are formed below the opening. Hooks 7 are connected to the eyes 5 and adapted to extend across the opening 3 and engage the eyes 6 for the purpose as will be later described. An opening is formed in the bottom of the casing 1 and is adapted to be closed by means of a door 8 which is hinged at 9 and secured in closed position by means of a turn button 10.
A bracket 11 is formed integral with or Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Uct. 2a, 1918..
secured to the casing in any well known manner and is used for connecting the same to the wall or other suitable support. A cylinder 12 is adapted to be received and rotatably mounted Within the casing 1 and is of less diameter than the casing 1. A shaft 13 is formed on each end of the cylinder 12 and passed through the central openings formed in the closed end of the cylinder 1 and the cap 2. A crank 14 is secured to one of the end shafts 13 for rotating the cylinder 12. Bristles 15 are secured to the exterior of the cylinder 12 and are of such a length as to terminate only a short distance from the inner surface of the casing 1.
When in use the casing 1 is secured to the support by means of the bracket 11 and the cylinder 12 is placed within the casing 1 by removing the cap 2. When the cap is replaced the cylinder 12 may be rotated by means of the crank handle 14. The hooks 7 are disengaged from the eyes 6 and the comb, to be cleaned, is placed through the opening 3. the teeth extending into the easing 1 and the ends of the comb engaging the pins 4 whereby the inward movement of the comb is limited to prevent its falling' into the cylinder. The hooks 7 are then brought over the back edge of the comb and engaged in the eyes 6 thereby holding the comb in position. When the cylinder 12 is rotated the bristles 15 will enter between the teeth of the comb and clean the same. The dirt which accumulates in the casing 1 may be removed by lowering the door 8. Where long combs are to be cleaned it will probably be necessary to allow the pins 4 to enter between the teeth instead of engage the ends of the comb. When it is desired to remove the cylinder 12 this can be done by removing the cap 2 from the casing 1.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure for Letters Patent is 1. A comb cleaner comprising a casing having an elongated opening therein, pins extended across the elongated opening, a cylinder having bristles secured thereto rotatably mounted in the casing and means for rotating the cylinder.
2. A comb cleaner comprising a casing having an elongated opening therein, pins extending across said opening adjacent each end thereof, hooks secured to the casing and adapted to extend over the elongated open- 1 ing, a oylinder'having bristles. secured therethereof and an opening in the bottom, ahinged door for closing the opening in the bottom, pins: extendingzrcross the elongtrtel opening in the front, eyes formed on the exterior of the casing on one side of the elongated. opening, hooks'connected to the opposite sid'e of the elongatecl opening andeflapted to engage" the" eyes, a cylinder provided with bristles rotatably mounted in the easingiazndil meansforrotating the cylinder.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
