Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. PRICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toronto, in the county of Woodson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved comb cleaner and the principal object of the invention is to provide a cleaner with which a comb may be connected and easily and quickly cleaned.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of comb holding clamp and to further so mount this clamp that the comb may be held in engagement with the bristles of a rotary brush while being cleaned.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this cleaner that combs of various thicknesses can be held by the clamp.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the improved cleaner in front elevation.

Fig. 2 is a view showing the improved cleaner in end elevation.

Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the cleaner.

Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the clamp and supporting shaft.

The brush or operating element 10 is mounted upon the shaft 11 which is rotatably supported by the standards 12 and has one end portion bent to provide a crank handle 13 so that this brush or operating element may be rotated. It is of course understood that any other means may be employed for rotating this brush, the crank handle being shown as simply one means for rotating the same. The clamp is pivotally mounted between the upper end portions of these standards 12 and includes the jaws 1 L which are provided with actuating handles 15 and are pivotally mounted by the rods 16 which extend through the pivot ears 17 at the ends of the jaws. This rod 16 is rota tably mounted in the upper end portions of the standards and in addition to pivotally .mounting the aws of the clamp, it carries springs 18 engaging the clamp to yieldably hold the same in a position to retain the teeth 19 of the comb 20 in engagement with the bristles of the brush 10.

When in use the comb will be placed between the jaws and upon releasing the handle 15 the springs 21 will move the aws to tightly grip the comb. The springs 18 will move the clamp bodily to bring the teeth of the comb into engagement with the bristles of the brush and therefore when the brush is rotated through the medium of the crank handle 13, the bristles will pass between the teeth of the comb and thoroughly clean the comb. When thoroughly cleaned, the comb can be easily removed from the jaws of the clamp and a new comb put in place.

What is claimed is:

1. A cleaning device comprising standards, a rotary operating element connected with said standards, a clamp pivotally mounted adjacent said operating element and including aws yieldably held in a closed'position, and means yieldably holding said clamp in a position to retain an article held thereby in engagement with said operating element.

2. A cleaning machine of the character described comprising supports, a rod connected with said supports, a clamp pivotally supported by said rod and including jaws yieldably held in a closed position, resilient means engaging said clamp to yieldably hold the same in an operative position, and a cleaning element rotatably mounted beneath said clamp.

3. A cleaning device comprising supports, an operating element rotatably connected with said supports and positioned between the same, a rod connected with said supports and extending between the same, a clamp comprising jaws pivotally mounted by said rods and extending longitudinally of said operating element, means for releasably holding said jaws in a closed position, and means for yieldably holding said clamp in an operative position with respect to said operating element.
