HERMAN c. MALSCH, or Housman, TEXAS.
BOOK WITH REMOVABLE COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1918.
Application filed February 11, 1918. Serial No. 216,455.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that HERMAN C. Manson, a citizen of the United States, residin at Houston, in the county of Harris and tate of Texas, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Books with Removable Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a book with removable cover.
The object of this invention is to provide a book of the character described, commonly known as a pass book, wherein the customers deposit account with the bank is kept; and the particular object being the provision of a pass book having a detachable cover.
As is well known, bank customers are provided with pass books wherein the accounts of their deposits in the bank are kept. These pass books are commonly provided with durable and expensive covers, and, unless the covers are made detachable, they must be discarded, along with the rest of the book, when the leaves are filled with data.
It is the object of this invention to provide a. cover which may be readily detached.
from the filler so that when the pass book is filled, the filler or leaves may be detached from the cover and discarded, and a new filler placed in the cover and said cover thus reused until it is worn out, thus materially reducing the expense to the bank, of supplying, to the customers, .new pass books. With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the acompanying drawings wherein Figure 1, is a plan view of the book, showing the cover in open position.
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof, showing the book open, and
Fig. 3, is a plan view of a modified form.
thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1, shows a book cover, shown in 3, 3, and under the straps l, 4,-thus-securing the filler in position in the cover.
When the blank leaves of the pass book have been filled with the account data, the
' filler may be detached, as is obvious, and a new one inserted, and the old cover thus reused until it becomes worn out. i
In Fig. 3, a backing 6 is shown having a pair of wings 7 7 on each side, which are inserted through the corresponding slits 3 3, and under the respective straps 4. 4:, thus providing ample means for securing the filler in the cover.
The lining 2 has a rectangular opening 8, cut therein and provided for the. purpose of inserting an identification card therein.
What I claim is:
l. A book of the character described formed of a cover, provided with slits, a
filler formed of leaves, a backing to which said leaves are secured, said backing being extended on each side forming wings, which, when inserted through said slits, secure the filler in said cover. i
2. A book of the character described formed of a cover, a filler formed of leaves, a backing to which said leaves are secured, said backing being extended on each side forming wings, and straps secured at their ends to the cover on each side under which said wings may be inserted to secure the filler in the cover. I
In testimony whereof he has signed his name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMAN C. MALSCH.
