UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN G. STAUFFER, OF BACHMANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
WATCH-CHARM.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 497,611, dated May 16, 1893.
Application filed September 24, 1892. Serial No. 446,814. (No model.)
To 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN G. STAUFFER,
of Bachmanville, in the county of Dauphin acter, of neat appearance, adaptedto contain removable cards for each month, and of such construction that the cards may be readily observed, that will hold the cards compact, and that will enable a card to be removedwith box-like body and a cover therefor, the former convenience and dispatch. v
The invention consists inthe novel details hereinafter particularly described and defined in the claims. v Reference is'to' be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both'the figures.
Figure l is a front perspective view of a watch charm embodying my invention, and 1 1g. 2 1s a longitudinal sectional view thereof, the charm being shown open.
' The bodya of the charm is of box-like form, and of a depth to accommodate twelve monthly calendar cards b. Above the cards I), is a bezel 0 corresponding to the shape of the box; it fits within the body a and overlies the edges of the cards 12, at all sides while exposing the major portion thereof, and fits the box so snugly as to contact with the inner surface thereof with sufficient friction to retain the cards compact. The bezel forms a follower for the cards and retains them neatly in place, pressing on the next succeeding one, as the cards are successively removed.
In connection with the body a,as described, a hinged transparent cover is employed, con sisting of a glass cl having a metallic frame (1, and to the central knuckle of the hinge 6 thereof, there is secured, or on it is formed, an eye f, for affording means of attaching it to a watch chain. By locating the eye fon the hinge, it will be seen that in addition to performing its function as a means of attachment to the chain, it also forms a stop for Y limiting the movement of the cover, and thus when attached to the chain the charm can be conveniently held while removing a card at the expiration of each month. The covervfits the rabbeted upper edge a, of the body with sufficient frictional contact to retain the cover closed. T wo' projections a a formed respectively on the body and cover, centrally thereof, at the end'opposite the hinge, enables the cover to be readily opened, for remova and insertion of the cards.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A calendar watch-charm comprising a adapted to receive a'series'of calendar cards, a bezel fitting the interior of the body with sufficient friction to prevent movement of the.
bezel, the latter overlying the edges of the cards while exposing the major portion there.-
said body, the hinge having an eye thereon V for affording attachment to awatch chain,
the said eye further forming a stop limiting the movement of the cover, substantially as and for the purpose specified. I
3. A watch charm, comprising a box-like body adapted to receive a series of calendar cards,a bezel fitting the interior of the body and with sufficient friction to retain said bezel against movement, the latter forming also a.
follower for the cards, a transparent cover hinged to the box, the hinge having an eye thereon for affording attachment to a watch chain and forming a stop for limiting the movement of the cover, and central projections formed respectively on the body and cover, at the end opposite the hinge, substantially as described.
