To aZZ whom it may 00mm.-
Be it known that I, JENNIE LYNN En- WARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valley, in the county of Stevens and State of /Vashin on, have invented certain new anduse ul Improvements in Corset-Retainers and Hose-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same.
This invention relates to means for holding down or retaining in position, ladies corsets and its primary object is to provide a corset retainer of simple and economical construction especially intended to hold down the corset while the corset wearer is using half hose instead of the usual long hose reaching above the knee.
A further object is to provide a corset retainer to be worn a few inches above the knee and loose enough to be perfectly comfortablewhile fitting the general conformation of the leg at this point in such a manner as to prevent it slipping up.
A further object is to provide a corset retainer of the class before specified with means for attachment through the rings of the hose supporters with which corsets are usually provided when manufactured.
Still further objects will be revealed as the description proceeds.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement and combination of the parts of a device of the character specified, which will be hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
in order that the construction and operation thereof may be readily comprehended, l have illustrated an approved embodiment of my invention in the accompanying drawings, and will now proceed to fully describe the same in connection with said drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a female figure provided with a corset, my improved corset retainer, and half hose, to illustrate the relationship of the several devices, and
Fig. 2, about one-half of a corset retainer constructed in accordance with my invention, on an enlarged scale, this half and the omitted half, being substantial duplicates so that the invention may be fully understood by specifically describing one half in connection with the description of the relation of the parts as shown in Fig. 1.
Like reference characters' nark the same parts in both of the figures of the drawing.
, Referring specifically to the drawing, 5
Each pad has a spring for elastically holding its sections together, said spring comprising a double 0011 13 at the top secured to'the pad, with an arm, as at 14 and 15, lying upon each section, parallel with the meeting edges of the sections, which arms are turned upward and outward at their lower endsforming arms 16 and 17 which are engaged in tape loops 18, 19 and secured to the sections by sewing the loops thereto.
The tape loop 18 is short, terminating on the section 9*- and carrying at its outer end a metal loop 20 having thereon a' hook 21 which is engaged by a metal loop 22 on the body tape 23 which is extensible in a well known manner by manipulating a loop 24 to which the end of the body tape is secured.
The arm 17, in the tape loop 19 is, as before stated, secured to the section 9 by sewing the loop 19 to the section, and the tape loop is extended in the form of a single tape 25 to take in the pad 10, connected also to tape 26 beyond the slidable metal loop 24, said pad being constructed, in all respects, similarly to the pad 9 heretofore described.
To place the corset retainer in position, the metal rings on thepads are simply engaged on the clasps 8 provided on the corset as hose supporters, when the length of the surrounding tape may be adjusted in the manner described, the binding of the retainer on the leg of the wearer being elastic owing to the action of the springs to normally hold the two sections together.
The retainer, as described, will elastically hold the corset down without any connection to e iiose sopgoottee end the tweeters is thete= :ioi'e permitted tweet hose Who-i Qfizx will be evident from the foregoing and ii desire to be understood that eeeeges variations meg ioe teefle from the specifie construction tieserioed, Wiililfifllil departing from the spirit emi scope of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I eieim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent oi the Unites States is:
