To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, PAUL R-rco'r, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Wheeling, county of Ohio, and State of WVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates broadly to fastening devices, and more particularly to a clasp for neckties.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a tie clasp which is designed for use in the ordinary manner of such devices and which, additionally, embodies means whereby the outer, or exposed, end of the necktie may be secured against lateral movement.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and efiicient device of the character mentioned, designed especially for use in connection with neckties of the four-in-hand type having a wide flowing or flared end, which embodies a flexible member adapted to maintain said end in position against undue lateral movement and at the same time to permit such slight vertical, or longitudinal, movement as will avoid a stretched condition of the tie and an appearance of too great preciseness or rigidity.

In describing the invention in detail, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front end view of a necktieclasp embodying my invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; and

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the invention partially applied, the outer end of the tie being shown in a detached and laterally displaced position.

Referring to said drawings, in which like designating characters distinguish like parts throughout the several views- 1 and 2 indicate the opposing pivoted jaws of a tie clasp which may be of any preferred form. Fixed upon the topmost, or outer, jaw l in an appropriate position is a ring or eye-piece 3 to which a knob or button-like head 4: is coupled, said head having attached thereto a link 5 which is received by said eye-piece. Said. link is preferably of elongated form and, by preference, 'is rigidly connected to and constitutes a shank for said head or button.

The clasp is applied as ordinarily for at taching the smaller or under end 6 of the necktie to the shirt of the wearer. The outer flaring end 7 of the tie must have a slit or button-hole 8 located therein at a suitable point, preferably substantially midway between its lateral edges, and the head or button & is directed through this button-hole for securing said tie-end 7 in position. Due to the flexible link connection between the jaw 1 of the clasp and the button, said tieend 7 is allowed a limited range of freedom. of movement which would not be permitted by a button having a rigid connection with the clasp.- This is an important feature of the invention, it being desirable that there be an absence of pulling or stretching of the tie with movements of the body of the wearer and also an absence of an appearance of stiffness or rigidity.

What is claimed is 1. A tie fastener comprising a clasp composed of pivoted jaws adapted to be disposed in holding relation to an end of a tie, an eye-piece fixed on the outer of said jaws, a button for engaging the outer free end of a tie held by said clasp, and a relatively long link of loop-form rigidly carried by said button and having its end received in said eye-piece whereby a flexible connection is afforded between said button and said clasp for permitting a limited range of un restrained lateral and longitudinal movement of said free end of the tie, said button and stem being also designed to occupy suspended position when not in use.

A tie fastener comprising a clasp composed of pivoted jaws, an eye-piece carried by one of said jaws, and a button having a link of loop form received in the eye of said eye-piece, said button being adapted for introduction through the free end of the tie and to permit the latter to have free relative movement in all directions.
