IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottom, invented by DONALD MOMURGHY, of J effersonville, in the county of Clark and State of Indiana.
Figure 1 is a detail longitudinal section of a bedstead to which my improvement has been applied taken through the line 00 on, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a detail cross-section of the same taken through the line-y 3 Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention hasfor its object to furnish an improved spring bed-bottom, simple in corn struction, inexpensive in manufacture, not liable to get out of order, effective in operation, and durable; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the central and side spring-slats, the central block or bar, and the fulcrum-blocks, as .hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the posts, B the side'rails,
and O the end rails of a bedstead, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new. To the inner sides of the end rails O are attached bars D, in which are formed notches or sockets to receive the ends of the central 'rest upon the central spring-slat E, so as to keep the said blocks G in proper position upon the said slat E. To the under side of the central parts of the side slats F are attached the ends of the bar or block H. The central part of the central slat E passes over the middle part of the block or bar H, and is connected with it by a pin attached to the said block H, and which passes through a hole in the spring slat F, so as to prevent the said slat from slipping from the block H, and the parts thus getting out of their proper relative positions.
With this construction, should the central spring-slats E become permanently bent or set they may be removed and reversed, making the bed-bottom again as good as new. With this construction light weights will be supported by the elasticity of the central slats E, but heavy weights will bring the ends of the side slats E into contact with the bars D, so that the weight will be supported by the clasticity of the three slats, the bed-bottom being thus equally easy and elastic, whether supporting light or heavy weights.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The arrangement of the central spring-slat E, two side spring-slats, F, fulcrum-blocks G, and central block or bar H, with respect to each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
DONALD MOMUROHY.
