Description

L. S. SCHRAM.
GARTER.
APPLICATION HLED JULY I4. 1916.
Patented May 2], i918.
LILY S. SCI-TEAM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
G-ARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, T916.
Application filed July 14, 1916. Serial No. 109,236.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, LILY S. SGHRAM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use- 'ful Improvements in Garters, of which the following is declared to be a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to garters and its primary object is to provide adjustment means of simple and practical construction whereby the length of the garter may be quickly and easily adjusted to suit the height of the wearer. With this and other objects in view this invention consists in the several novel features of construction arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying this specification, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of the in vention applied to corset garters, and Fig. 2, is a cross-section taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
Referringto the drawing, the supporting strap 6 is preferably made of elastic material and is adapted to be secured to a corset in the usual manner. To the lower end of the elastic strap 6 is secured one end of an inelastic strap or ribbon 15, the other end of which may be secured to the supporting strap 6, near the upper end thereof. The clasp 8 may be any of the usual and wellknown forms of clasps used on corset garters and is preferably provided with a horizontal loop 8 through which the elastic supportstrap 6, is passed. It is also provided with the usual loop 9*, which co-acts with the usual member 10*, for securing the clasp to a stocking. A snap fastener member 14 is secured to the lower end of the elastic supporting strap 6 and above said member 14B, is secured a row of co-acting snap fastener members 13 with any of which the snap fastener member 14*, may be connected to lengthen or shorten the distance between the ends of the garter. The head or button member 14* of the snap fastener is preferably fastened to the lower end of the clastic strap 6, and the socket members are fastened to said strap on the same side thereof but above said head or button member l k It is to be observed that the inelastic strap or ribbon 15, covers all of the snap fasteners regardless of any position of adjustment so that they may not interfere with any of the other articles of apparel worn by the user.
More or less variation of the exact construction shown and described is possible without departing from the spirit of this invention; I desire therefore not to limit myself to the exact form of the invention shown and described, but intend to point out all of the invention disclosed herein in the following claims.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-v tors Patent:
1. A garter comprising a supporting strap formed with an endless loop, a stocking clasp member having a transverse eye through which extends the loop of the strap,
a snap fastener member secured to the bottom of said loop, and a plurality of co-act ing snap fastener members secured to said loop in alinement with each other, all of said snap fastener members being located on the inside face of the loop.
2. A garter comprising a supporting strap formed with an endless elongated loop comprising an elastic portion and an inelastic portion secured thereto at top and bottom, a stocking clasp member having an eye through which extends said loop, a snap fastener member secured to said elastic portion of the loop near its lower end, and coacting snap fastener members secured to said elastic portion of the loop above the first mentioned snap fastener member, and co-acting therewith to hold the stocking clasp member in various positions of adjustment, said snap fastener members being located on the inner face of the loop.
