This invention relates to an improved blanket particularly adapted to bel used in armies as aY scout blanket.

The object of the invention is to provide a blanket which may be made of soft yielding material and so arranged relatively to the body of the user as to entirely envelop said body with a plurality of thicknesses of said blanket so as to form a comfortable and very Warm covering which will .extend entirely over` the body in a plurality of .thicknesses and especially over the head and feet of the body. While the head of the body is covered, the blanket is so constructed as to be adap-ted to be folded in a manner to provide suitable Ventilating and breathing spaces, so that while said blanket is very warm and comfortable, it allows free circulation of fresh air to the user.

It is the object of the invention also to provide a scout blanket -of the character hereinbefore set forth which may also be utilized as a lap robe or as an army cape.

The invention consists of a scout blanket constructed as hereinbefore described and `particularly as set forth in the claims.

In the drawings, 10 is the main body por- 12 and 13 and upon the lower end 14 thereof by stitches 15. The opposite sides 17 and 18 of the main body portion of the blanket extend to a substantial distance beyond the opposite sides 12 and 13 of the auxiliary body portion of the blanket and the lower end 19 and upper end 20 of the main body portion of the blanket extend to a substantial distance beyond thel lower end 14 and the upper end 21 of the auxiliary body portion of said blanket. rlhe opposite sides 17 and 18 of the main body portion of the blanket are provided with snap fasteners 22.

1n using the blanket the user inserts his body into the pocket 23 formed between the main body portion 10 and the auxiliary portion 11 and this pocket is long enough to substantially cover the entire body of the user, with the exception o-f his head which projects beyond the upper end 21 of the auxiliary body portion. lThe main body portion is now folded in the followingmanl illustrated in Fig. 1 and the lower end of the main Abody portion is then folded across the entire width of the body portion substantially along a line A and across the entire width of said blanket, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The side 17 ofthe body portion of the blanket is then folded over the auxiliary body portion 11 and the other side 18 of the main body portion is then folded over said body portion and over the side 17 of said main body portion which has already been folded over the auxiliary body portion 11. This brings the two members of each sna fastener in alineinent with each other an they are then snapped together in the usual manner, as illustrated in Fig. 4.

The folded upper end of the main body portion is then folded downwardly toward the main body portion substantially along the line B, Fig'. 5, and the corners 25 and 26 spread laterally so that they extend beyond the opposite folded edges 27 and 28 of the blanket as illustrated in Fig. 5. Said corners 25 and 26 are then carried around to the back of the folded blanket, as illustrated in Fig. 6, and fastened in the position illustrated in said Fig. 6 by tapes 29 and 30 which. are respectively fastened to the corners 25 and 26, and in the completely folded position of the blanket are carried around from the back to the front thereof and tied, as at 31.

VThe manner in which the blanket is folded enables a Ventilating or breathing space 32 to be formed, so that the user may have a plentiful supply of fresh air.

1t will be noted that by extending the opposite sides and upper and lower ends of the main body portion 'of the blanket beyond the edges of the auxiliary body portion, it will be possible to fold said sides and edges of the main body portion of the blanketas hereinbefore set forth and in such a manner as to obtain a plurality of thick'l nesses over all portions of the body of the user and especially over the upper and lower portions of the body of the user.

Thus a material may be used for the blanket which is warm, flexible and comparatively thin and yet provide a blanket which may be so folded as to provide a plurality of thicknesses, especially over those portions of the body which most need protection.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:

1. A scout blanket comprising a substantially rectangular flexible body portion and a substantially rectangular auxiliary body portion attached on three sides thereof to said main body portion and forming a pocket open at one vend thereof to receive a human body, said main body portion eX,- tending to a substantial distance beyond said auxiliary body portion on the opposite sides and open end thereof, whereby the opposite sides of said main body portion may be folded over said auxiliary body portion and attached to each other and said end portion human body, said main body portion extending. to a substantial distance beyond said auxiliary body portion on the opposite sides and upper end thereof, and fastening means attached to said opposite sides and to the upper corners of said-main body portion, whereby the opposite sides of said main body portion may be folded over said auxiliary body portion and attached to each other and said upper end portion may be folded over upon said main body portion and the upper corners of said. main body portion fastened in folded position on the under side of said main body portion to leave a breathing space between said folded upper portion and said folded side portions.
