BLANKET WITH FASTENING MEMBERS Filed July 7, 1952 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 IN VEN TOR.
United States Patent F 2,701,885 B NK T FASTENING MEMBERS Joseph J. Turco, Franklin, Mass.
Application July 7, 1952, Serial No. 297,485
Claims. (Cl. 5-334) invention relates to a blanket, especially one for One object of my invention is to provide the ordinary blanket with fastening members so strategically located that it can serve both as a sleeping bag and as a baby bunting or open headpiece.
Another object is to so locate the fastener members on the blanket that it is obvious at a glance, which ones should be connected to form a sleeping bag, of varying size, and which ones to form an open headpiece.
A further object is to provide such a blanket with said fastener members that can be sold at practically the price of a blanket alone.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a combination and arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawings. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawings nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my blanket laid out fiat.
Figure 2 is a plan view of my blanket folded from the bottom upwardly to provide a sleeping bag and with lapel-like portions formed in the upper half thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged lower end view of a portion of my blanket in the form shown in Figure 2.
As illustrated, my blanket 10, such as an ordinary baby blanket, is commonly made of a single piece of cloth or other suitable material. One face, which I call the outer or exposed face, is given the numeral 11, and is at the outside when the blanket is on the baby, as illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings. The'opposite face, which I call the inner face, is given the numeral 12, and it is mostly next to the baby when worn. Said blanket has a border strip, or trim 13 thereon covering and extending all around the outside edge.
Extending outwardly from said inner face 12, are a plurality of fastener members 14, which are attached to the lower half portion of the blanket, and which, as shown, are well known, male, snap fasteners, although any other suitable type of fastener or tie may be used. These fastener members 14 are preferably placed in vertical rows on each half side of the blanket, spaced inwardly from the side edges, and there may be one on each side, or a larger number, such as three, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings.
Extending outwardly from said inner face 12, and attached to the blanket at its upper half portion, are other fasteners 16, of a type that will cooperatively connect with the said fasteners 14, well known female fasteners being shown. These are shown placed in vertical rows on each half side of the blanket, spaced from the side edges, and there will preferably be as many as there are fasteners 14 in the lower half portion.
if it is desired to have said blanket serve as a sleeping bag, or provide a large pocket portion, the lower half portion of the blanket is folded towards the upper half and two of said fasteners 14 are connected to said fasteners 16. Each side of the blanket may then be folded towards the other side and the tapes or ribbons 18 at each said side may be tied together.
2,701,885 Patented Feb. 15, 1955 At the upper right, and upper left, corner portions of the blanket, fastener members 20 are attached which extend outwardly from said inner face 12, male fasteners being shown. Also attached to the upper half portion of the blanket and extending outwardly from said outer face 11, are fastener members 22, female ones being shown, which can be connected to said fasteners 20. These fasteners 22 are below and preferably in substantially vertical alinement with said corner fasteners 20, in plan view, and also are slightly higher, at least when in position of use, than any of said fasteners 16. They are so located that when the upper half portions, at opposite sides of said blanket, are folded over, the pair of fasteners 20 and 22 at the same side, can be connected, when the blanket portion carrying fastener 20 is turned over.
As illustrated, in Figure 2 of the drawings, these fasteners 20 and 22 enable the blanket to provide two lapellike portions 24 between which is a space for the babys face, so it will be uncovered.
To improve the appearance and make the lapel portions 24 attractive, at each side portion of the blanket part of it is tucked in, out of sight, to form a triangle 26 extending from the connected fasteners 20 and 22 horizontally outward, then straight upwardly, and then diagonally downward to said connected fasteners 20 and 22. Tapes or ribbons 23 extending from the top edge may be tied together as shown in said Figure 2 to keep the head and shoulder portions together.
What I claim is:
1. A blanket comprising a plurality of fastener members attached to the lower half portion and other fastener members attached to the upper half portion adapted to connect with the first said fastener members to hold a portion of said blanket in folded position, and third fastener members attached to the upper corner portions of said blanket, and fourth fastener members attached to the upper half portion of said blanket at opposite side portions thereof and extending outwardly from a face of the blanket opposite to that of the third fastener members and adapted to connect with the latter fastener members.
2. A blanket comprising a plurality of fastener mem bers attached to the lower half portion and other fastener members attached to the upper half portion adapted to connect with the first said fastener members to hold a portion of said blanket in folded position, and third fastener members attached to the upper corner portions of said blanket laterally of and higher than said other fastener members, all of said fastener members extending outwardly from the same face of the blanket, and fourth fastener members attached to the upper half portion of said blanket at opposite side portions thereof and laterally outward of and higher than said first and second mentioned fastener members in plan view and extending outwardly from a face of the blanket opposite to that of the other fastener members.
3. A blanket comprising a plurality of fastener members attached to the lower half portion and other fastener members attached to the upper half portion adapted to connect with the first said fastener members to hold a portion of said blanket in folded position, and third fastener members attached to the upper corner portions of said blanket laterally of and higher than said other fastener members, all of said fastener members extending outwardly from the same face of the blanket, and fourth fastener members attached to the upper half portion of said blanket at opposite side portions thereof and in substantial vertical alinement with said third fastener members in plan view and laterally outward of and higher than said first and second mentioned fastener members in plan view and extending outwardly from a face of the blanket opposite to that of all the other fastener members.
4. A blanket comprising a plurality of fastener members attached to the upper corner portions of said blanket, and other fastener members attached to the upper half portion of said blanket at opposite side portions thereof and extending outwardly from a face of the blanket opposite to that of said corner fastener members and being below, in plan view, and adapted to connect with said other fastener members when said corner portions are folded downwardly.
5. A blanket comprising border trim material at side edges thereof and a plurality of fastener members extending through said border trim material and attached 5 to the upper corner portions of said blanket, and other fastener members extending through said border trim material and attached to the upper half portion of said blanket at opposite side portions thereof and extending outwardly from a face of the blanket opposite to that 1 of said corner fastener members and being below, in plan view, and adapted to connect with said corner fastener members when said corner downwardly.
