UNITED STA-Tes PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC W. MORTON, OF S'I. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SLEEPING-BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. l713,329, dated November 1 1, 1902.
Application led June 2,1902- Serial No. 109,870. (No model.)
.To all wiz/0m, it may concern-f Beit known that LISAAC WI/IORTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeping-Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
VThe object of my invention is to make a sleeping-bag which can be easily changed to more or less cover without the occupant getting out of the bag; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I is a perspective View of my iinproved bag in its fully-closed condition. Fig. II is an enlarged transverse section of the bag in the position shown in Fig. I. Fig. III is a top or plan View of the bag in its open condition. Fig. IV is a transverse section taken on line IV IV, Fig. III.
Referring to the drawings, l represents the body of the bag, consisting of an upper blanket or portion 2 and a lower blanket or portion 3. These two portions are stitched together along their sides, as shown at et, and along the foot of the bag, as shown at 5, and the upper blanket or portion is provided with a slit 6 to permit easy ingress to the bag, this slit being provided with a lacing 7 or other means of closing it. On the sides of the body of the bag there are blankets or portions 8 and 9, attaohed to the body preferably by means of the stitches 4, as shown in Fig. IV. The far side of the body l from the blanket or portion 9 is provided with studs 10 to receive eyelets 11 on the outer edge of the blanket or portion 9, so that when this portion is folded over onto the body its free edge may be attached thereto, and the inner edge of the blanket 9, as well as the foot thereof, is provided with studs l2 to receive eyelets 13 in the blanket 8, so that when the blanket Sis folded over the blanket 9 it may be attached thereto along the foot and the free edge thereof. The blankets 8 and 9 are formed with slits 14, provided with laces l5 orI other means of closing them. It is obvious that instead of using the studs l0 and 12 and the eyelets Il and 13 other Well-known forms of attachments-,-such,for instance,as hooks and eyesmay be used.
With a sleeping-bag thus made the occupant can readily change the amount of cover by adding or removing one or both of the blankets' 8 and 9, and this he can do without getting out of the body of the bag.
I claim as my invention- A sleeping-bag consisting of a closed body portion, and a blanket attached to each edge of the body portion, means for attaching the free edge of one of the blankets to the body portion, and means for attaching the free edge of the other blanket to the first-mentioned blanket, substantially as set forth.
ISAAC W. MORTON.
