NIGHTGOWN.
APPLICATRYN man 05c. 22. 1914.

LOUISE'IE. zrns, or BALTIMORE. MARYLAND.

I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July ni rate.
- Application filed December 22, 1914. Serial No. 878,419.
To all whom itmay concern: y y
\ Be it known that ll, LOUISE F. Zrns,-a citizen 'of the'fUnited States, residing at Baltimore, inthe Sta-te'of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nightgowns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in night gowns, and is especially adapted for use in hospitals, or persons confined to bed. The object of the invention, is to provide a gown which may be placed upon the patient or removed therefrom, without raising the body or arms and with comparatively little movement of the body or arms.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure lis a front view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a front perspective view of one side of the gown. I i
Referring to the accompanying drawing,
forming part of this specification, and in which like reference'numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates one side of the gown and 2 the other side. The side 1 is provided along its front edge with eyelet-s, or holes, 3 and along the edge of the back with eyelets, or holes, 4, and the piece 2 is provided with eyelets or holes 5, along its front edge, and
with eyelets, or holes 6 along the edge of the back. The eyelets 3 and 5 are coincident when the two back edges are fitted together and are held by a. tape, or lace 7, passing therethrough, and the eyelets/i and 6 are coincident when the front edges are brought together, and are held by a tape, or lace 8, passing through'said eyelets; The said tapes or laces are held in position by a knot or loop at each end and are adapted to be drawn through said eyelets from either end. The sleeves 9 and 10 are open along their upper edges from the neck to the ends. The front and back edges of'the two sleeves 9 and 10 each being provided with eyelets 11 and 12 respectively, which coincide when the saidfront and back edges are brought together and are held in position by the tapes or laces 13 and 14, each of which is provided with a knot or loop, at each end to prevent slipping through said eyelets and are adapted to be drawn through thesaid eyelets from either end.
When the gown is on the patient it can readily be removed by. loosening. the loops at the top of the laces and then drawing said laces out of the eyelets. The two parts of the gown can then be removed from each side with but little or no movement of the patients body. When the gown is placed on the patient, both sides are placed in position and laced over the arms, then by slightly turning the body the back can be laced and then the front. I
It will thus-be seen that the gown may be-placed upon the patient or removed without raisingthe body and with little or no movement of the patient.
\Vhile I have shown the two parts and the shoulders laced, it is obvious any other suitable fastening means may be employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A night gown comprising two pieces detachably connected in the center at the front and back thereof, and each piece having a sleeve open at the top throughout its entire length, the overlapping edges of. said sleeves being provided with eyelets, a lace for each sleeve adapted to be drawn from either end thereof, a lace for the overlapping front edges adapted to be drawn from either end, and a lace for the overlapping back edges adapted to be drawn from either end thereof. 2
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
v LOUISE F. ZIES.
