Description
M. E. WILLI AMS. BED SPRING COVER. APPLICATION FILED MAR- 3l| 19I'L .1 ,265, 1 52. Patented May 7, 1918.
MATTIE E. WILLIAMS, OF LOUISBURG, NORTH CAROLINA.
BED-SPRING COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7, 1918.
Application filed March 31, 1917. Serial No. 158,967,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAT'rm E. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisburg, in the county of Franklin and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed- Spring Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved bed spring cover and has for its primary'object to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly applied to the bed spring or removed therefrom to provide a base or support for the mattress.
It is another and more particular objectof the invention to provide a bed spring cover formed of woven grass or fiber, and tie strings stitched to the material diagonally across the corners thereof, whereby said cover may be readily secured to the upper convolutions of the springs and retained thereon.
It is a further general object of my invention to improve and simplify the construction of devices of the above character and render the same highly convenient and serviceable in practical use and capable of manufacture at relatively small cost.
WVith the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in-the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my improved cover applied to a bed spring; and
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the cover.
Referring in detail to the drawing, S designates several spaced, convoluted wire springs of the ordinary bed spring. These springs may be of various constructions and secured upon the frame of the bed springin any approved manner.
My improved cover for the bed spring, generally indicated at 5, is preferably formed of fiber, woven grass, or like material, and diagonally across each corner thereof the tie strings 6 are interwoven.
In applying the cover, the same is arranged upon the upper convolutions of the placed.
bed springs, and the ends of the tie strings 6 are engaged around the upper convolutions of the corner springs at diametrically opposite points and securely tied thereto. The
mattress is arranged upon said cover which invention being exceedingly simple in con-.
struction, may obviously be produced at small manufacturing cost.
While I have shown the preferred form and construction of the several features of the device, it is to be understood that the same are susceptible of considerable modification and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied Within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is A bed spring cover consisting of a sheet of flexible material adapted to overlie all of the spring members, and tie strings secured in the cover at the corners thereof and having free end portions extending from the longitudinal and end edges of the cover and adapted to be tied to the upper convolutions of the corner spring members to positively hold the cover at its corners against shifting movement and displacement from the spring coils.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
M. E. WILLIAMS.
