COMBINED CIGAR HOLDER AND PIERCER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK D. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigar, Holders and Piercers, of which the following is a speclficationh V V This invention relates to a combined cigar holder and piercer, and has forits object to provide a cigar holder having a piercing member therein, which is adapted to pierce and enter the end of a cigar when the latter is placed in the holder'for the purpose of causing the cigar to draw freely when smoked.
With theseand other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved holder illustrating a cigar in dotted lines as retained therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the stem of the holderv with the piercer proecting therefrom and the bowl portion removed.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bowl portion of the holder.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the stem portion of the holder, which may be made of any suitable material, the same being made hollow or with a longitudinally disposed opening 11 therethrough, through which the smoke may be drawn from the cigar into the mouth of the smoker.
The outer end of this stem is provided with a barrel portion '12 onto which one portion 14 of the holder end 13 of the bowl is fitted.
The essential feature of my invention is the provision of a piercing member 15 which is connected to the stem 10 in any suitable way, but I preferably form this piercing member of a thin blade of metal having a Specification of Letters Patent.

head portion being preferably larger, wider or of greater cross-sectional area than the body portion, for two reasons. First, so as to form a hole in the end of the cigar, a
'a transverse slot in which the end of th thin blade is fixed.
It is found in practice that by providing a longitudinal opening 18through the blade which connects with the hole 11 in the stem, that when the piercer enters the end of the cigar, the tobacco leaves are spread and separated and are retained slightly opened up so as to permit the smoke to draw freely through this opening 18 in the blade.
I have shown and described a blade form of piercing member with a hollow center portion, but I do not wish to be restricted to this particular form of piercing member as any other form of piercer which is mounted within the bowl to enter the end of the cigar when positioned in the holder,
will fall'within the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is limited only by the terms of the appended claim. v
I claim:
A combined cigar holder and piercer comprising a hollow stein member slotted across its end, a thin, fiat blade having a longitudinally-disposed opening through its middle portion extending from one end nearly FRANK D. WHITE.
