tiefem e 1. en@ 'mus 'peels @f uw @ses bfemm the .d 125 am. ley-.fte r weer 11.1111@ se@ @wel provided with a chamber 3e into which the blow-oil pipe 21 extends. Cleaning doors 35 and 36 are provided in the side wall of the boiler casing to permit the removal of the dirt from the iloor under the hole 31 and in front of the rear wall of the boiler casin g.
In operation, the products of combustion pass upwardly from the iire box 29 into contact with the tubes 10 of the boiler unit 8 which are forward of the baille 22. They then pass through the passage 30 provided between the top of the baille 22 and the drum 11, and by engagement with the baille 25fare compelled to pass downwardly between the baille 22 and the baille 25 to heat the rear tubes of the boiler unit 8. They then engage the drum 12 and pass through the opening 27 to heat the tubes 17 and drum 15. The products oi combustion then pass upwardly between the rear of the baille 25 and the baille 23 to heat the forward tubes of the boilerl unit 9 after which they pass through the passage 24: and downwardly between the rear of the baille 23 and the rear wall of the casingl 1 and eventually pass out through the passage 2 which is located ad jacent the bottom of the boiler casing and then to the flue 3.
It will thus be noted that by the inclusion of my improved intermediate baille 25, the products of combustion are confined to the elements of the boiler which contain water to be converted into steam. Furthermore, the baille 25 serves to reinforce the 4boiler casing. The opening 27 permits the direct ,passage of the products of combustion from the elements of one boiler unit to the elements of the other vboiler unit without j and again upwardly adjacent the front -tubes 13, and finally pass downwardly adjacent the rear tubes 13. In other words, the flame and products of combustion are always going with the circulation of the water within the tubes by the arrangement of baillin as illustrated. The portion 28 of the ba e 25 forms a pocket and al deflector for the products of vcombustion between the lower drums of the units.
While I have described myinvention as .taking .a particular form, it will be under- L1.jst oc d that. the various parts of my invention `1nay be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself. to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a boiler having a plurality oi units, each unit having an upper and a lower drum, and two sets of tubes,
one set communicating with the upper and lower drums of one unit, the other set communicating with the upper and lower drums of the other unit, of a baille extending from the upper drum oi one of the units to the lower drum of the other oi2 the units and having a portion extending from the latter mentioned drum to the lower drum of said iirst mentioned unit, other bailles spaced from both sides of said iirst baille to cause the products of combustion to move between them and said first baille and to include eertain of said tubes between them and said iirst baille, said iirst baille having an opening in. alinement with said lower drums, said porY tion of the first baille providing a barrier for directing the products of combustion, ai'ter they pass through said opening from one side of the first baille, upwardly through the space between the other side of the first baille and the adjacent one of said second mentioned baflles, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a. boiler having a plurality of units, each unit having an upper and a lower drum, and two sets of tubes, one set communicating with the upper and lower drums of one unit, the other set communicating with the upper and lower drums of the other unit, of a baille extending from the upper drum of one of the units to the lower drum of the other oi" the units and having` a portion extending from the latter mentioned drum to the lower drum of said first mentioned unit, other bailles spaced from both sides of said first baille to cause the products of combustion to move between them and said.v rst baille and to include certain of said tubes between them and said first baille, said iirst baille having an opening in alinement with said lower drums, said portion of the lirst baille providing a barrier for directing the products of combustion, after they pass through Said opening from one side of the iirst baille, upwardly through the space between the other side of the first baille and the adjacent one of said second mentioned,-
bailles, said portion of the first baille having a clean-out opening therein and a door for normally closingsa-id clean-out opening, substantially as described.
3. A boiler including two units, each unit.
l hayinguan upper and a lower drum, two sets 'of' tubes, one set communicating with the 'S their opposite ends,
upperand lower drums of one unit, the other 'set communicating with the upper and lower drums of the other unit, a baiiie extending longitudinallyfbetween the units and having an .opening adjacent the bottom drums, and other battles between the tubes of the respective units, one extending upwardly from the bottom drum of each unit toward but stopping short of the upper drum of that unit to provide passages, substantially as described.
4f. A boiler including two units, each unit having upper and lower drums, two sets of tubes, one set communicating with the upper and lower drums of one unit, the other set communicating with the upper and lower drums of the other unit, a baffle extending longitudinally between the units, other bai'- iles, one extending between the tubes of each unit, said rst baflie having an opening adjacent similarly located drums of said units, said second baiies being arranged to provide passages between the tubes at positions within the length of the units and located at positions remote from said first passage, substantially as described.
5. The combination in a water tube boiler including two units, each of said units including two drums arranged respectively at and tubes establishing communication between the drums of each unit, a bale extending longitudinally between the units and having an opening, and other bailes located between the tubes of said units respectively, said opening in the firstinentioned baiiie being in line with adjacent drums of the units, Said other baffles extending from said latter mentioned drums partway of the distance between said drums and the other drums of the units, substantially as described.
6. The combination in a water tube boiler including two units, each of said units including drums respectively at their opposite ends, and tubes establishing communication between the drums, a baiie extending longitudinally between the units and having an opening therein, and other baffles located between the tubes of said units respectively, said opening in the first-mentioned baffle being in line with adjacent drums of the units, said other baffles extending from said latter mentioned drums partway of the distancebetween the latter drums and the other drums of the units, substantially as described..
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
