Abstract
11,165. Todd, D. R. May 13. Water-tube boilers.-In water-tube boiler of the type comprising drums of semicircular crosssection connected by vertical tubes, the upper and lower drums are identical in construction and provided with passages or constrictions through or around which the furnace gases pass. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the passages B in the drums A<1>, A<2> are formed by tubes attached to the walls of the drum by flanges, the tubes being preferably so arranged as to allow a man to crawl past them through the drum for cleaning. The furnace gases pass through the opening B in the drum A<2> to a chamber B<1>, the back and front walls of which are formed of tubes D<1>, D<2> of larger diameter than the rest of the tubes A<3> connecting the drums A<1>, A<2>. Between the tubes D<1> and the tubes A<3> is a superheater G. The chamber B<1> is provided with partitions H, H<5> which, with other partitions not shown, direct the furnace gases along the central part of the boiler. The gases return at the side parts of the boiler to the upper part of the chamber B' and pass out through the opening B in the drum A'. This arrangement of partitions may be dispensed with and the gases allowed to pass out at the front end of the boiler. In this case the openings B in the drums A<1> are covered by plates and serve to give access to the boiler. The tubes D<2> pass into a portion of the drum A<2> separated from the remainder thereof by a partition D<3> to form a sediment-collector. A mud-drum E is provided connected to the drum A<2> on the two sides of the partition D' by pipes E'. In place of the passages B the drums A<1>, A<2> may be formed with constrictions, different constructions being described.
