Abstract
21,289. Schulz, R. Oct. 3. Water - tube boilers. - Relates to water-tube boilers in which the furnace gases pursue a circuitous path amongst the water-tubes. The gases pass from the tubes at one side to those at the other side through a second combustion chamber x at the end, to which fresh furnace gases and air pass through passages x<2>, x<3> in both walls. In the boiler shown, two sets of curved watertubes, one on each side of the main combustion chamber, connect the steam drum to two bottom water drums. Straight tubes may be used, and the bottom water drums may be dispensed with when double tubes are used. A double set of tubes may be used at one or both sides. Four series of tubes separated by three main combustion chambers, or tbree series of tubes separated by two main combustion chambers, may be used, connected to one or two steam drums and a number of bottom water drums. The steam and water drums may be connected together by steam and water pipes respectively. Partitions may be arranged to cause the gases to pursue an up and down course amongst the tubes. Each series of water-tubes may consist of one or two sets. Two or more series of tubes may be arranged on each side of the second combustion chamber.
