IRGNING-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 5, 1918.
Application filed August 20, 1917. Serial No. 187,230.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, Esrnnn M. MICKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Birds, in the county of Lawrence and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Table, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to ironing tables, and the object of the invention is the provision of novel means for detachably connecting the supporting legs with the main board.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved ironing table.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof.
Fig. 8 is a fragmental bottom view showing the fastening means for connecting the main board and supporting legs.
The main board 1 is supported by the pairs of legs 2 and 3 having secured to the lower ends the cross bars or foot pieces 4 to rest on the floor. A cross bar 5 is secured to the legs 3 near their upper ends to engage a longitudinal rack bar 6 secured to the lower surface of the board 1, for adjusting said board. A cross rod 7 connects the legs 2 near their upper ends and is adapted to be seated in a longitudinal groove 8 provided in one side of a transverse cleat 9 secured to the lower side of the board 1. The groove 8 extends longitudinally from end to end of the cleat 9 and the rod 7 is seated therein for pivotally connecting the legs 2 with the board. An eccentric clamp or cam 10 is pivoted to the lower surface of the board 1 to swing toward the cleat 9 for clamping the rod 7 therein, whereby to attach the legs 2 and board together, but permitting them to swing relatively to one another. The clamp 10 has a handle 11 for turning it, and said clamp can be shifted to release the rod 7 for detaching the board and legs. The legs at the opposite sides are connected by crossed inclined brace rods 12 having their ends bent. angularly and engaged pivotally through the legs and held therein by means of nuts 13 engaged thereon. When the rack bar 6 is seated on the cross bar 5, this supports the board 1 in a substantial manner, and the bar 5 can be adjusted along the rack bar 6, to adjust the board, the legs 2 and 3 swinging relatively when adjusted. The legs can also be swung upwardly into folded relation adjacent to the lower surface of the board 1, and outstanding staples 13 or other suitable stops are carried'by the legs near their upper ends for the contact of the IOds 12 to limit the folding of the structure. Although the clamp will hold the rod 7 seated in the groove 8, it permits said rod to turn when adjusting or folding the table. The groove 8 is preferably provided in that side of the cleat 9 opposite the legs 3, with a clamp 10 pivoted to the-board toswing toward the legs 3 for clamping the rod 7 in said groove.
Auxiliary boards 14 and 15 are fastened on the main board 1 by means of a bolt 18 and a nut 19.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is An ironing table embodying a board; a transverse cleat'secured to the under surface of the board and provided upon its outer side with a longitudinal groove which opens toward one end of the board, the groove being coextensive in length with the cleat; a rod of circular cross section mounted to rock in the groove; first legs carried by the rod; second legs; a cross member connecting the second legs; a rack bar on the under surface of the board and engaged adjustably with the cross member; crossed braces, each of the braces having one of its ends pivoted to one of the first legs and having its other end pivoted to the corresponding second leg; and a cam pivotally as my own, I have hereto affixed my signamounted on the under side of the board beture in the presence of two Witnesses. tween said end of the board and the first leg, the cam coacting with the groove of the ESTHER MICKEY 5 cleat to hold the rod in the groove for Witnesses:
