Description
PATENTED APR. 23, 1907. J. L. RATGLIFP.
IRONING TABLE. APPLICATION FILED APR.2,1906.
T .Z i 5 my UNITED sTATEs PATENT o FIo Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed April 2, 1906. Serial No. 309,357.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES E. RATCLIFF a citizen of the United States, residing at D wson, in the county of Sangamon and 'State of Illinois, have invented a certain new' and useful Ironing-Table, of which the following is such afull, clear, and exact description as will enable others skilled in the art to make and use my said invention.
This invention relates to folding ironingtables provided'with hinged ironing-boards and detachable sleeve-boards. i
The purposes of this invention are to provide an ironing-table having a hinged ironing-board and a detachable sleeve-board and combininglightness, strength, andrigidity, and so constructed and arranged that when extended both the ironing-board and the sleeve-table will bein convenient position for use, and when folded the several parts of theironing-table will be compactly disposed relative to each other, so that the ironing-board may be conveniently carried, and when stowed away will occupy little space.
With these ends in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction and combinations of parts shown in the annexed drawings, to which reference is hereby made, and hereinafter fully described and finally recited in the claims.
I 'Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference-numerals designate like parts in theseveral views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ironing-table extended. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section through the extended ironing-table, and Fig. 3 is a similar section through the folded ironing-table.
The entire ironing-table frame is of wood, of suitable dimensions for the purpose.
Side pieces 1 are connected by cross-pieces 2, a top plate 2 and a bar 3. The contiguous intermediate cross-pieces 2 are arallel and are such a distance apart thatw en the table is folded the leg 9 of the sleeve-board will fit between the cross-pieces and will suport the sleeve-board between the ironingoard and the main frame, as shown in Fig. The side pieces 1 have notches 1. The
cross-piece 3 has a mortise 3. Legs 4 are connected by cross-pieces 5, and the upper cross-piece 5 is secured on the legs 4 by metal straps 6, preferably of galvanized iron.
The board 7 is sh'aped substantially as shown, and near the inner end thereof parts of the board are cut away to fit that part of the board between the side pieces 1 and form shoulders 7, which when the table is extended rest on the upper edges of the side pieces 1. The board 7 is provided with fixed blocks 7 A cross-piece 8 is secured on the under side of the board 7 and is also secured to the blocks 7 Bolts 10 connect the blocks 7 .with the side pieces 1, so that the reduced part of the board may turn between the side pieces 1. The sleeve-board 9 has a fixed leg 9 and a tenon 9 which fits in the mortise 3 in the bar 3. Braces 12 are pivotally connected with the side pieces 1 andthe legs 4 by bolts 13.
' When the ironing-board 'is extended, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the reduced part of the board 7 lies under the cross-piece 5, and the cross-piece prevents downward turning of the outer end of the board. The tenon 9 part of the frame and the braces 1&2 prevent accidental turning of the legs.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to securebyLetters Patent, is
In an ironing-table the combination of a main frame having side pieces and contiguous parallel intermediate cross-pieces, an ironing-board pivotally connected with and adapted to lie upon the side ieces of the main frame and a sleeve-boar a connectible to the main frame and having a leg adapted to eup ortthe sleeve-beard horizont'fly In'w'itness whereof I have hereunto subupon t e ironing-board whenthe-ironingscribed my name, at Spn'ngfield, lllincns this table is extended; also adapted to fit between 16th day of March, 1906.
the intermediate cross-pieces of the main JAMES E. -RATOLIFF.- -5 frame and support the sleeve-board between I Witnesses:
' the ironing-board and the main frame when E. H. LICHTENBERG,
the ironing-table is folded.j W.. AURELIUS.
