Description

W. W. HORN.
FOLDING TRESTLE. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 28, 1914.
Patented June 15, 1915.
HE NORRIS PETERS 60., PHOTO-LITHQ. WASHINGTON. D. c
WILLIAM W. HORN, F CHIGAGQ ILLINOIS.
FOLDING TRESTLE.
. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 15, 1915.
Application filed SeptemberZS, 1914.. Serial No. 863,804.
[ 0 all @7104 it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. Home, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Folding Trestles, of which the following is a specification. 7
This invention relates to folding trestles or stands for builders and like uses, and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and association of parts, wherein the same are capable of being conveniently and compactly folded together forstorage and transportation, and which when unfolded is adapted to provide a very firm and stable structure, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
' detail transverse section on line m-w, Fig.
1. Fig. 5, is an enlarged detail longitudinal section on line 00'--00, Fig. d.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the longitudinal supporting rail of the trestle, which rail in the present improvement is provided with a longitudinal depending web 2 constituting a reinforce for the rail and a means of attachment for the trestle legs hereinafter described. In the preferred construction shown in the drawing, a length of structural T iron is employed to. provide the rail 1 and Web 2, aforesaid.
3 designates pairs of pivot plates the upper portions of which are secured in spaced relation by spacing blocks 4, with the spaces thus formed adapted to receive the depending web 2 of the rail 1, as shown.
The lower portions of the pivot plates are bent outwardly and have the angular truncated form shown.
5 designates transverse hinge'pins or rivets which pass through end portions of the pairs of hinge plates 3, and through the web 2 of the rail 1 to pivotally secure said pairs of hinge plates to said rail.
6 designates alined orifices formed in the other end portions of the pairs of hinge plates and in the web 2 of the rail 1 and adapted to receive a removable locking pin 7, adapted to lock the hinge plates to the supporting rail in the unfolded condition of the trestle.
8 designates the trestle legs, preferably formed of wroughtunetal tubing and having their upper ends flattened and riveted to the lower angular portions of the hinge plates 3, as shown.
9 designates bearing shoes or blocks secured to the lower-ends of the trestle legs 8, aforesaid.
10 designates transverse braces secured to pairs of the trestle legs 8, intermediate of their height, and in the preferred arrangement of the same, as shown in the drawings, one of said braces will be pivotally connected at one end to one trestle leg, and at the opposite end will be provided with an open sided eye or other like provision for detachable engagement with a projection or other like means on the companion trestle leg. Withthe described construction, the bracelO, just described, can be released from bracing engagement with said trestle legs, and the same can then be sprung together suificiently to pass inside the other pair of trestle legs, in the operation of folding the trestle for shipment or storage.
, Having thus fully described my said invention What I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A trestle comprising, a longitudinal rail having a depending longitudinal web, a pair of hinge plates secured in spaced relation by an intermediate spacing block and hinged at one end to the longitudinal web aforesaid, the lower portions of said hinge plates being bent outwardly, and trestle legs attached fixedly to said lower portions of the hinge plates, substantially as set forth.
' 2. A trestle comprising, a longitudinal rail having a depending longitudinal web, a pair of hinge plates secured in spaced relation by an intermediate spacing block and hinged at one end to the longitudinal web aforesaid, the other ends of the plates and the web having alined orifices, a locking pin adapted to engage said alined orifices, and trestle legs attached fixedly to said hinge plates, substantially as set forth.
3. A trestle comprising, a longitudinal rail having a depending longitudinal web, a pair of hinge plates secured in spaced relation by an intermediate spacing block and hinged at one end to the longitudinal web aforesaid, the lower portions of said hinge Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 25th day 7 plates being bent outwardly, trestle legs atofSeptember, 1914.
tached fixedly to said lower portions of the hinge plates, and transverse braces attached WILLIAM HORN 5 to the trestle legs intermediate their-height, Witnesses:
one of said braces being detachably con- 7 ROBERT BURNS, nected, substantially as set forth. IVA L. CRANE.
