I other purposes.
One object of the invention is to provide a table of this type which will be rigid when set up for use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a table of the type mentioned which is so constructed thatit may be folded readily to occupy small compass when not in use.
It is within the scope of the invention to improve generally and to increase the utility of, devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides: in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings :Figure 1 shows the structure in folded or collapsed condition; Fig. 2 is a perspective showing the structure set up for use and in open position; Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the structure when positioned as shown in-Fig. 2; Fig. 4: is an end elevation of the structure when positioned as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a fragmental longitudinal section showing the cooperation between the side bars of one frame and the legs; Fig. 6 is a fragmental transverse section showing the cooperation between the side bars and the legs.
In carrying out the invention there are provided diverging primary and secondary legs denoted respectively by the numerals 1 and 2. Adjacent their upper ends, the legs 1 and 2 are pivotally connected by means of a main rung 3. The ends 4 of the main rung 3 outstand beyond the outer faces of the secondary legs 2.
The primary legs 1, adjacent their lower ends are connected by a pivot rung 5, upon which is mounted to swing a lower frame 6,

comprising side bars 7 and rungs 8 connectingthe side bars. The side bars 7 at their free ends are provided with notches 9 adapted to interlock with a fixed rung 10 which connects the secondary legs 2. The lower frame 6, therefore, constitutes a means for preventing the legs 1 and 2 from spreading and thus the structure, when set up, is maintained in a rigid condition. The fixed rung 10 may be mounted in supporting blocks 11 applied to the inner faces of the secondary legs 2.
Theprimary legs 1 are connected by a pivot rung 12 supporting for vertical swinging movement, an intermediate frame 14: comprising side bars 15 and rungs 16 connecting the side bars. The intermediate frame 14- is supported upon a stop rung 17 which connects the secondary legs 2. If de sired, the side bars 15 may be notched as in dicated at 15 so as to engage with the stop rung 17. In this manner, the legs 1 and 2 are prevented from spreading and, if desireld, the lower frame 6 may be dispensed wit Upwardly extended and outwardly projecting supports 18 are pivoted on the stop rung 17 the supports 18 being provided in their outer edges with notches 19. A pivot rung 20 is mounted in the upper ends of the supports 18, and, if desired, blocks 21 may be applied to the supports 18 to receive the pivot rung 20.
A top frame 22 is shown, the top frame comprising side bars 23 which are pivoted upon the stop rung 20 and rungs 25 which connect the side bars 23. Intermediate their ends, the side bars 23 of the top frame 22 are provided with notches 24 which engage the projecting ends 4 of the main rung 3. If desired, hooks 26 may be mounted in the outer faces of the side bars 23 of the top frame 22.
From the foregoing, and noting particularly Fig. 2, it will be observed that the de vice hereinbefore described will stand erected in a rigid condition and will afford three separate supporting frames. The stop rung 17 constitutes a part of the supporting sur face of the intermediate frame 1 1 and the main rung 3 constitutes a part of the supporting surface of the top frame 22.
In order to collapse the structure, the lower frame 6 is swung upwardly in the direction of the arrow A in Fig. 3. The intermediate frame 14 is swung upwardly in the direction of the arrow B. The top frame 22 is swung upwardly and then downwardly in the direction of the "arrow C, so that the top frame hangs in a depending position along the secondary legs 2, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, the supports 18 swinging upwardly and inwardly, as indicated by the arrow D.
When the structure is in folded or co1- lapsed position, as shown in Fig. 1, the notches 1 9" in the supports 18 engage that rung 25 of the top frame 22 which is neXtto the pivot rung 20. The notches 9 in the lower fra ne'7 receive the stop rung 17 and thus the structure may be collapsed into small space, the lower ends of the legs 1 and 2 being swung together.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is i f 1. In a device of the class described, diverging primary and secondary legs; means for preventing a spreading of thelegs; a
top frame includingside bars and rungs connecting the side bars; a main rung forming 'a pivotal connection between the upper ends of the legs and adapted to fit between certain of the rungs of the top frame to constitute a continuation of the supporting surface of't he top frame, the main rung having protruding ends and the side ba'rs ofthe top name being supported intermediate their ends by the protruding ends of the main rung; and a support pivoted to one leg and pivoted toone end of the top frame.
2. In a device of the class described, di verging primary "and secondary legs; means Copies of this patent may be obtained for for connecting the legs pivotally adjacent their upper ends; a horizontally disposed top frame; means for supporting the top frame intermediate its ends; a support pivoted to one end of the top frame; a second frame comprising bars and rungs; means for p ivotally supporting the second frame on the primary legs; a rung connecting the secondary legs and adapted to fit between certain of the rungs of the second frame, to
constitute a continuation "of the supporting adapted to fit between certain of the rungs of the second frame to constitutea continuation of the, supporting surface thereof, the side bars of the second frame having means for interlocking with said rung to prevent a spreading of thelegs; and a support pivoted to the last specified rung and pivoted to nne end ofgthetop'frame' I In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I havehereto'aflixed my signature in the presence of vtwowvji tailesses. v 3
