Description
. J. EVERICKX. v
Improvement in Folding -Seatsa Patented April 9, 1872.
PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES JOSEPH EVERIOKX, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 125,556, dated April 9, 1872:
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLES JOSEPH Ev- ERIGKX, of Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented a new and Improved Portable Folding-Seat or Table andl do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, andwhich said drawingconstitutes part of this specification, and represents, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view of a chair complete, the broken lines illustrating the manner of folding. Fig. 2, a side View folded; and in Fig. 3, a vertical central section.
This invention relates to an improvement in folding-chairs; the object being to fold such articles into compact form for packing or transportation; and it consists in the peculiar construction and, hinging together of the parts, whereby the object of the invention is accomplished.
t i are the two rear legs, to which theparts or back j j are respectively hinged. k k are the two forward legs, pivoted to the seat on at a, the said seat also pivoted to the parts j j at d, the last-named pivot being above the joint of the rear legs and back, as denoted in Fig. 3. h is a connection, vhich is pivoted to the joint b, which hinges the back and rear legs, and also pivoted to the front, as at n, the last-named pivot being below the point a,
the said pivots being relative to each other, so that, when the back is drawn forward, as denoted in broken lines, the forward legs will be drawn beneath the seat by means of the said connection-J1, as denoted in broken lines, Fig. 1, and the back being turned down onto the seat, the forward legs 70 will consequently come beneath the seat m, as indicated in Fig. 2, and the rear legs '6 folded down thereon, as seen in the same figure. To secure the chair in a vertical position, a brace :20 is attached to the seat at the back, and extends forward,
constructed to hook onto a rundle, Z, or other convenient point, as fully shown in Fig. 3.
This brace supporting the back prevents its being drawn forward to operate as before de scribed.
I claim as my invention- The herein-described chair, in which are combined the seat 0h, legs t' 70, back j, connection 72-, and brace 02, all hinged together and relatively to each other so as to be folded, as described, or supported, when upright, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname to this specification before two subscribing witnesses.
G. J. EVERI'GKX.
