To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK WV. VoJE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Billiard-Cues, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in billiard cues, and has for its primary object the production of a device, which enables the tips to be readily replaced and a number of new tips to be held in readiness for service when required.

A further object is to provide a device of its kind, which can be broken into sections, so that the sections can be packed in a short space for storage or shipment.

With these and other objects in View, my invention comprises the features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention, portions thereof being broken away to more clearly show the construction; Fig.2 is a section of a detail showing a portion of the tip end of the cue; Fig. 3 is another section of a detail showing a portion of the parts intermediate the ends of the cue, which can easily be dismembered, and Fig. 4f is another section of a detail illustrating a portion of the butt of the one.

In the drawing, let A indicate the body portion of a one which tapers from its butt to its tip in the usual manner. This body is composed of two or any suitable number of longitudinal sections such as 2 and 3, which can be easily separated or joined at i. The joint employed for performing the function stated is clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 and comprises a ferrule 5 permanently secured over the stud 6 on section 2, said ferrule being provided with a threaded longitudinal opening 7 and a cup or recess 8 in its outer end. cess 10 being formed in the stud 6, which receives the outer extremity of said shank. The recess 8 is adapted to receive a proj ection 11 on the end of section 3 to assist in producing a tight oint when sections 2 and 3 are screwed tightly together. The joint described produces a rigid and even connection between the parts of the body of the cue, which is strong and durable. The tip end of the one is provided with a ferrule 12, which is permanently secured by gluing over the stud 13 on the end of the cue. This ferrule has a threaded opening 14; in its end into which a threaded stud 15 on the body 16 of the tip is secured. The body 16 of the tip has secured by gluing or other suitable means upon its end a buffer element 17 In use the buffer element on tips becomes damaged and by the use of my invention damaged or worn tips can be easily and quickly replaced from time to time at very little eX- pense, thus obviating the necessity of sending the entire cue to a work shop for that purpose and consequent loss of use.

The butt of the cue is formed with a magazine chamber 20 in its end over which a collar 21 is secured, said collar having a threaded end 22 and a threaded opening 23. A threaded stopper 24: screwed into the opening 23 serves to close the magazine and hold a supply of tips therein. Secured on the threaded portion 22 is a cap 25 having a chamber 26 receiving the head end of the stopper 24. The outer end of this cap contains a bumper or buffer 27 made of rubber or other suitable material for the purpose of reducing the hazard of breaking the cap and damaging the parts of the cue. The parts of my invention may be made out of any suitable material desired.

In accordance with the patent statutes, I have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth Within the scope of the following claim.

Having described my invention, What I 5 claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A billiard cue having a tip holding magazine in its butt, a stopper removably secured to said butt to close said magazine and a cap remo vably secured to said butt i0 over said stopper having a buffer on its outer end.
