.UNI'I'ED STATEs PATENT QFF/ICE.
CHARLES A. BOGERT, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED WALKING-CANE AND BlLLlARD-CUE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,218, dated December 26, 1871.
To whom it may concern: p
Be it knownthat I, GHARLEs A. BOGERT, of Bay City, in the county ofBay and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Walking-Cane and Billiard- Gue; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a partial longitudinal section of my device extended as a billiard-cue, and Fig. 2 isa similar view of the same as a cane.
- Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention has for its object the construction of a billiard-cue in such a way that it may be converted into a walkin gstick of the usual-len gth; and it consists in the novel and peculiar construction and arrangement of the same, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents the larger half or butt of the one, which is made hollow or tubular to receive the other half, A, as seen in Fig. 2. The tube A has a' female thread cutin each end at the butt to receive the head B, and at the smaller end to receive the screw a at the larger end of 1 the part A when extended as a one, as in Fig.
1, or the ferrule 0 when used as a cane, as shown in Fig. 2. The head B has its stud b provided with a male thread to secure it to the butt of the one or cane, as shown. It is also drilled and tapped with a female thread to receive the screwstud a of the smaller end or section of the one when in use as a cane,'as seen in Fig. 2, and on the other hand to receive the ferrule 0 when the device is extended to form a one, as shown in Fig. 1. c is the cue-tip orleather secured to the section A in the usual manner.
I do not wish to confine myself to the precise form of joint or method of connecting the two sections of the cue herein shown and described, as metallic sleeves may be used with either screw or slip-joints nor to any particular material nor to the making of the two sections of the one of the same materials, as the part A may be made of wood, and the hollow sectionA of metal, hard rubber, or any other suitable material.
. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A combined billiard-cue and walking-cane,
substantially as shown and described.
2. The construction and arrangement of the cue-sections A A, the head B, and ferrule 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES A. BOGERT.
