To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that LVViLLIAivr B. CAswnLLy, acitizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have linventedcertain Anew and useful Improvements in Window-Shade-Roller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable and detachable window shade brackets or supports, and has for .one 0f its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be applied without structural change to window casings or frames without marring or otherwise mutilating the casing or frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the adjustable portion is held by friction only and is adapted to shade rollers of various forms and sizes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention-d Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper portion of a window including` the casing and the upper portion of the upper sash with the improved device applied;
Fig. 2 is a detached enlarged front elevation of the improved device;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 2 with the adjustable member in section on the line 3-3 of FigjQ;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the blank from which the bracket portion of the im proved device is constructed;
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4.;
Fig. 6 is an edge view of the part shown in Fig. 4 with the central portion in section on the line (3-6 of Fig. 1i;
Fig. 7 is a view similar'to Fig. 3 illustrating a modification in the construction.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device includes a bracket Spenraiicationiof` 'Letters ratent.

.jection pressed therefrom intermediate-fthe ends. 'The metal strip Vcomprisesy body` portion, illustrated conventionallyw at4 10 with the rib, represented conur@ntionally .at
11. The member 10 is first bent at the points indicated by the dotted lines 12 in Fig. l
with the portions in advance of the dotted lines substantially in parallel relation to the central portion and toward each other and the bent over portion lagain bent along the dotted lines 13 to form shoulders, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 7. The free ends of the strip thus project over the rib` 11, and are initially bent relatively close to the rib. The bent over portions of the bracket device are perforated to receive holding screws or dlilzre devices 14, as illustrated in Figs. 3 an The shade roller support comprises a main body portion or bar 15 and an outwardly directed portion 16, the outwardly directed portions being perforated to receive the bearings or journalsof a shade roller, the perforation at one side being circular to re'- ceive the circular journal at one'end ofthe roller and the perforation at the other side beingelongated to receive the flat journal of the roller, the portions 16 serving the same purpose as the shade roller brackets of an ordinary curtain fixture.
The bar portion 15 is inserted between the bent over portions of the bracket and the rib 11. and the material of the bracket will be sufciently resilient so that the bar is firmly held by friction in position and engaged at one side by the rib and at the other side by the inwardly projecting portions of the bracket, as illustrated more particularly in Figs. 3 and 7.
The bent over portions of the bracket are i screws 14, as will be obvious. By this arrangement it will be noted that the pressure exerted by the action of the screws 14 will be suiicient to hold the bars 15 from dis-- placement when in use, while at the same time the bars may be adjusted to any required extent to adapt the device to shade rollers of various lengths without detaching any of the parts. p
If preferred the device may be so constructed that the friction is exerted wholly by the inwardly directed terminals of the bent over portions of the member 10, as shown in Fig. 7
The improved device is simple in construction, formed of two pieces only, and may be constructed entirely by machinery, thus reducing the expense and the weight of the material.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is z- A e A shade roller bracket comprising a Hat elongated body portion having an intermediate upstruck longitudinal rib and its opposite ends folded over on the rib side of the body to form attaching flanges having their inner ends offset and extended inwardly in spaced relation to the rib to form spaced clamping lips, the free ends of which are spaced apart, and fastening devices piercing the attaching flanges for securing the body portion to a support and forcing the clamping lips into frictional engagement with a shade roller support.
