To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. GA'swnLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have invented cer-j tain new and useful Improvements in Win: dow-Shadeltoller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable and detachable window shade brackets, and has for one of its objects to window casings of a frame without marring or otherwise deteriorating the frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device wherein the adjustable portion is held by friction only and adapted to shade rollers of various shapes and sizes.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper portion of a window including the casings and a portion of the upper sash with the improvement applied. Fig. 2 is a detached enlarged front elevation of the improved device. Fig. 3 is an end view and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the parts shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detached perspective view of the bracket portion of the device. Fig. 6 is a view of the blank from which the bracket is constructed. 1
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device includes a bracket member adapted 'to be attached to the window frame and a roller supporting member adapted to be slidably engaged with the bracket. The bracket portion of the device is formed from sheet metal, preferably steel, bent into the required shape, and including a body portion 10 having an extension 11, preferably at one side. The portions 10-11 ar un ted b re lin d psr i 118 h w in 6, The-bracket portion qfj tlie. device is veii elstv l bv' end the es en 11 over into parallel relation to the body 10 along the longitudinal center of the connecting portion 12 as indicated by dotted line 13, and then bending the terminals 1 1- 15 of the extension 11 toward each other along a dotted line 1617 with the confronting ends of the terminals spaced a short distance from the outer face of the extension 11. The portion 11 is pressed tightly against the body 10 while the confronting ends of the terminal portions 1 l15 are slightly closer to the extension 11 than the curved portions 1819. By this means the terminals 1 115 coact with the portion 11 to form a yieldable socket to receive a flat bar or plate 20 and hold the same by friction. At one end the bar 20 is bent at right angles as shown at 21. The outwardly bent portion 21 will be perforated to receive the bearings or journals of a curtain roller, the perforation at one side being circular to receive the circular journal at one end of the roller and the aperture of the member 21 at the other side slotted to receive the flat journal at the other end of the curtain roller, the portion 21 serving the same purpose as the ordinary brackets of a curtain fixture. The material from which the bracket member is constructed will possess suflicient resiliency so that the bent over portion of the terminals 11-15 will engage the bar members 20 with sufficient force to hold them in position against the strains of the curtain roller when in use, while at the same time will serve when a sufficient force is applied, to adjust the bars in the brackets to enable the device to be adapted to curtain rollers of various lengths as will be obvious.
The device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured and applied by any person without any previous skill or knowledge.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a shade roller bracket, a body having a laterally directed extension connected to the body by a reduced portion, said extension being adapted for bending into parallel relation to the body with the terminals of the extension bent toward each other and spaced from the turned over extension to provide a resilient socket for aroller support. 2. In a shade roller bracket a bodyhavin a lateral extension, the extension being bent into parallel relation to the body and the terminals of the extension bent over toward each other, the bent over portions being farther from the extension at their bends than at their free ends, whereby a resilient socket is produced to maintain ashade roller support yieldably in position.
3. A shade roller bracket comprising a bodfhaving a lateral extension, the extension being bent into parallel relation to the body and the terminals of the extension bent over toward each other, the bent over portions being curved at their bends and spaced farther from the extension 'at their Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of 'Patents,
