To al l whom it may'conoem Beit known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON 'DAYMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sweep-Stick Couplings, of which the following is a specification. a a

In carrying out my invention as here embodied 2 represents a loom frame of any ordmary and well .known construction provided with a picker stick 3 and a picking arm bracket 4, with which is connected the picking arm 5.having a stud 6. On this stud is journaled the rocker arm connection 7, preferably formed of aluminum because of its lightness, and this rocker arm connection comprises a bearing sleeve 8 havin a stud opening 9 therethrough, and provi ed with an oil hole 10 leading from theoutside surface to the stud opening 9.
From the bearing sleeve projects a pair of approximately parallel integral arms 11 connected together at their outer ends by an integral post 12, circular in cross section as will be plainly seen in Fig. 5. Through one of the arms 11 adjacent its outer end and longitudinally through the post 12 to a oint intermediate its ends runs a vertical oil hole 13, the inner end communicating with a transverse oil hole 14: passin entirely through the post 12 as plainly s own in Fig. 4.
The outer ends of the arms 11 are arcuate in plan to coincide with the circular contour of the post 12, and said post and the outer ends of the arms 11 register with an arcuate vertical groove 15 formed in the inner end of the sweep stick 16 when said sweep stick and the rocker arm connection are connected. To connect the sweep stick and rocker arm connection, I provide. a strap 17 of aluminum, stiff leather or other suitable material having adjusting slots '18 adjacent the ends, and this strap overlies two opposite side faces of the sweep stick and passes around the post 12, the same being adjustably secured to the sweep stick by means of a suitable fastening member 19, such as a screw or bolt which passes throughthe slots 18 and through a hole 20 adjacent the inner end of the sweep stick, said fastening member having a nut 21 threaded on one end thereof for drawing the parts firmly together to hold said parts in their adjusted position and prevent the member, and if found desirable, washers 22 may be interposed between the strap 17 and the head of the fastening member and the nut.
The opposite or outer end of the sweep fstick is provided with a hole 23, whereby the retaining strap :25.
In Fig, 6 I have shown the bearing sleeve 8 of the rocker arm connection of the same width as the arms 11, thereby eliminating the extensions of the bearing sleeve which. project beyond each side of the arms 11 as shown in Fig. 3. In some cases it is necessary to have a wide or long bearing sleeve, while in others the bearing sleeve must be relatively short or narrow, depending upon the space between the parts of the bifurcated end of the picking arm, which varies considerably in difierent makes of looms, and I do not Wish to be confined to any par ticular length or width of the parts, nor the particular configuration of the device which varies according to the different dimensions.
By referring to Fig. 4: it will be seen that when a suitable lubricant is placed in the oil hole 13, said lubricant will pass down- -ward through said hole into the transverse hole 14 where it will pass to the bearing surfaces of the post 12,'sweep stick 16 and strap 17, properly lubricating said surfaces, so as to-reduce the wear and friction to a minimum. The bearing surfaces of the stud 6 and bearing sleeve 8 are lubricated through the oil hole 10 as will be obvious.

and the object of my invention. is to-pro vide a sweep stick coupling or the combination of a sweep st1ck and rocker arm connection, which will permit the sweep stick I proper to follow the above described moveaffixed my drawings, the sweep stick will be permitted to move in a vertical direction about the stud 6 in the arc of a circle about said stud, so as to follow the rise and fall or the retaining strap on the picker stick, and since the sweep stick proper is hinged to the rocker arm connection by the strap 17, said sweep stick is permitted to move horizontally or sidewise so as to follow the sidewise movement or play of the picker stick. Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing. from the spirit ofmy invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claiin as new and useful, is
1. In a device of the character stated, a rocker arm connection comprising a bearing sleeve having a stud opening therethrough and provided with an oil hole integral arms projecting from saidbearing sleeve, a post formed integral with the outer ends of said arms, said post being circular in cross section, one of said arms and said post having an oil hole extending therethrough to a point intermediate to the ends of the post, said post having another oil hole passing transversely entirely therethrough and communicating with the first named oil hole, a sweep stick provided with an arcuate groove registering with the post of the rocker arm connection, and a strap passing around said post and adjustably connected to the sweep stick for hingedly fastening said sweep stick to the rocker arm connection.
2. In a device of the character stated varocker arm connection comprising a bearing sleeve having a stud opening therethrough, integral arms projecting from said bearing sleeve, and a post formed integral with the outer ends of said arms, said post being circular in cross section, in combinationwith a sweep stick having an arcuate groove at one end to register with said post, and a strap passing around said post and adjustably connected to the sweep stick for hingedly fastenmg-saidsweep stick to the rocker arm.
