To all whom it may concern.
Be it known thatI, STEVENS S. STAoNEcK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gilbertville, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picker-Checks for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in picker-checks for looms, the object being to provide a simple and effective check or buffer for the pickers of looms, the construction thereof being such that it may be readily connected to the picker-rod supports and will be maintained in position by the picker-rod without the use of auxiliary connecting means.
The invention consists of a buffer or check for the picker of a loom which buffer is made up to provide a part that overlies the picker-rod-support on the loom, and is held in place by the picker-rod so that the picker may contact with the buffer, a portion of the buffer being designed to enterthe race to hold the buffer against rotation and at the same time provide an extended surface for contact of the picker therewith, and the plates of the buffer being each connected by a spring having an internal diameter which is greater than the external diameter of the picker-rod. v
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred form or embodiment of my invention Figure 1, is a side elevation showing the picker-check applied to a loom. Fig. 2 is a plan view looking toward the top of the lay, the shuttle-box and picker check mechanism with the picker in position to throw the shuttle, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are views of parts of the picker check detached.
The loom is of ordinary construction and is provided with the usual picker-rod supports 6, to which the ends of the picker-rod 7 are secured. The picker 8 which is mounted upon the picker-rod has a portion that extends through its race to engage with the bobbin, said picker being connected to the picker-staff 9 by a strap in the usual manner, the operative parts of the loom not being changed in any way further mention as to the operation thereof is deemed unnecessary.
The picker-check or buffer 10 comprises an end portion 11 that consists of a plate having an aperture 12 and a part 13 shaped to extend across the face of the picker-rod support, the end portion of the part 13 being bent inward to impinge against the outer end of the picker rod, and in practice the edge 14 will bear against the frame of the loom to hold the member or part 11 against turning upon the picker-rod. The end 15 of the part 13 has a notch or recess which overlies and bears against the pickerrod. The part 11 has attached thereto one or more springs 16 and 17, preferably one inside of or superimposed upon the other, the manner of connecting the ends of the springs to the plate being immaterial as the ends may be brazed, soldered or riveted to the plate, and
in practice the inner spring 16 will have an internal diameter which is slightly larger than the external diameter of the picker-rod where it is passed through the spring.
The springs 16 and 17 are each connected to the plate 18 against which the picker 8 abuts, and this plate 18 in addition to the aperture therethrough has a portion 19 that is adapted to enter the race through which that part of the picker passes to engage the shuttle. The extended portion on the plate 18 by engagement with the race provides a larger contacting surface and prevents the plate 18 turning under the torsional effect of the compression and expansion of the spring or springs.
' The picker-check herein described has all the parts connected, it may be readily applied to looms as now manufactured and is held securely in place by the passage of the picker-rod therethrough.
I claim.
1. A picker-check for looms comprising an apertured plate for engagement with a picker-rod support, a part integral therewith which overlies the face and opposite side of the picker-rod support, a spring attached to the plate about the aperture therethrough, a plate connected to the other end of the spring the same having a part that is adapted to enter the race for the picker.
2. A picker-check for looms comprising two apertured members one of the members having a part formed therewith that engages the 100m adjacent to the picker-rod support and apart that overlies the opposite face of the picker-rod support, a spring attached at its opposite ends to the members about the apertures therethrough, the construction being such that the picker-check is held in place by the passage of the pickerrod through the apertured members and through the spring attached thereto.
