In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan view of the left hand portion of tne race-lay of a loom, having the shuttle in the shuttle-box, and showing the application of my invention to the picker-stick. In the drawings I show so much ofv a loom to illustrate themanner of applying my invention thereto and wherein the lay 1 is provided With thel usual slot 2 for the ickerstick 3, which is operated in the usua manner to throw the shuttle and, the shuttle-box 5, and these parts constructed in the wellknown way.
My invention is carried out by means of which I will now state.
O11 the side of the lay 1 is secured a` rectangular shaped wood block 6, by screws 7, 7, and this block is provided with a transversely arranged circular aperture 8 to loosely inclose therein a spiral spring 9. The block 6 is also provided with a narrow slotted opening extending longitudinally thereof, as at 10 in Figs. 2 and 3. One end of the spring 9 is bent toform a branch 11 to pass through said opening and this branch terminates with a hook 12 to engage one end of a strap 13 Whoseopposite end is made fast to a spur 14, secured in the other side of the lay. The other end of the spring 9 is also bent to form a branch 15 to project through a recess 16 formed in the rear face 17 of the block 6, and this recess is divided into a series of notches 18, 18 arranged to permit Vsaid branch 15 to be brought to engage in either of said notches in accordance to the tension required of the spring 9 upon the strap connection with the lay. The strap 1.3 is suppprtled by abracket 19 which is made fast to t e a Theyoperation of the device is as follows: When the shuttle 4 strikes against and drives the picker -stick to the full-line position shown in Fig. 2, said picker-stick comes in contact with the strap 13 and at this point of contact a compression of the spring 9 is had, and the resistance offered to the shuttle increases with the compression till it becomes suflicient to cause the strap 13 to arrest the picker-stick, at the position indicated by dotted lines in said figure, when the shuttle will then have gradually reached the end of its stroke.
It is apparent that by use of my device the checking of the movement of the shuttle may be had at any desired point beyond halfway in the shuttle-box, by simply adjusting the operating branch 15 in one or other of the holding-notches 18, to obtain the requisite tension of the spring 9 to check the shuttle at any point in this part of the box.
My invention can be easily applied to any of the ordinary looms in use, and at the same time forms a structure that is simple, and inexpensive to manufacture.
What I claim and desire to secure by liet- In a loom, the combination with the picker-stick 3 and pull-strap connection 13 therefrom, of a block 6 secured to the side of the lay and provid ed respectively with a circular aperture 8 extending from said lay, a slotted opening 10 at the bottom of said aperture, a recess 16 adjoining said lay and said block having a series of holding-notches formed in the face of said recess, as at 18 a spiral spring 9 loose Within the aperture of said block and having a branch end portion 10 movable through said slotted opening and having its extremity hook-shaped, as 12, for connection with said strap and a branch end portion 15 to act as a handle to insert in either of said holding-notches.
