Be it known that 1, ALICE F. Bnnvnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Bolivar and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hose supporters and the principal object of the invention is to pro vide a device particularly adapted for use in supporting stockings and preventing injury thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which will cfi'ectively hold the stocking smooth and even and prevent the tearing of the same by the usual type of hose supporter, thereby avoiding the possibility of causing runs and the like.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a hose supporter which is constructed to frictionally engage the hose and be clamped about the knee of the wearer to provide an attaching means to which the usual type of hose supporter is attached to the corset may be connected.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional View phrough the supporter taken on line 5*5 of Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the hose supporter of the ordinary construction to which this improved device is applied, which comprises the main body 2 formed of any suitable fabric and this body 2 is provided with the transversely extending bands 3, the ends of which extend beyond the ends of the body as clearly shown in the drawings. These bands 3 are positioned at the upper and lower extremities of the body 2 and the upper band is longer than the lower band as clearly shown to accommodate the taper of the limb of the wearer when the same is encircling the limb. Secured to the body and connecting the bands at one side are the upwardly and outwardly inclined strips 4: which are secured at the longitudinal terminals of the body and similar strip 5 are secured at spaced intervals intermediate the ends of the body and a suitable transversely extending reinforcing strip 6 extends between the strips 5 at the upper edge of the body as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Each of the vertical strips is provided with an extension 7 to which the upper attaching member 8 is secured and this at taching member 8 is the member to which the supporters 1 are secured. A suitable strip 9 is secured to one terminal of the attaching member 8 and each of the strips 3 and 9 is provided at its outer end with suitable eyes 10 which are adapted to cooperate with hooks carried by the opposite edges of the body 52 and member 8. It is to be understood that if desired several sets of eyes may be provided so as to make the device adjustable about the limb of the wearer. The lower ends of the strips "l and 5 are provided with the loops 11 the use of which will appear as the description proceeds.

A suitable limit circling strip 12 is provided and is held in the loops 11 as is clearly shown in the drawings and the opposite ends of said strips carry the rings 13 through which the ribbon 14. is passed. This ribbon 14 forms an attaching means for the opposite ends of the strip 12 and is adapted to be tied in a bow or the like in order to provide a decoration for the device.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the device is secured to the limb of the wearer at the knee so that the body 12 forms a cap or cover for the knee. The ends of the strips 3 are then attached in such a way that the device will encircle the limb and the end of the strip 9 is secured to the opposite end of the attaching member 8. it is to be understood that these strips are formed of an elastic material so that when the whole is attached over the stocking and about the limb, the same will act to support the stocking and prevent the same from slipping down. After the free end of the strip 9 has been attached to the opposite end of the attaching member 8 the hose supporters 1 are then secured to the upper edge ot the attaching member as shown in Fig. 1 and it will be apparent that downward nunsenient of the tlEViCO will be impossible. The two ends of the strip 12 are then brought to encircle the limb and connected together by the ribbon it which is tied in n how or any other desired ornamental effect.

hat is claimed is:

A hose supporter comprising :1 body, a binding strip at the lower end of said body, edging strips attached to the side edges of the body and extending from the binding strip beyond the upper edge of the body, the binding strip being adapted to surround the limb of the wearer below the knee and to cause the device to frictionnlly engage the upper end of the stocking a band attached to the upper end of the edging strips and adapted to encircle the limb of the wearer above the knee, said band being adapted to be attached to an ordinary hose supporter loops formed at the lower end of the edging strips, attaching tongues attached to one side edge of the body and reinovably connected to the opposite side edge of the body to cause the device to encircle the limb of the wearer and an auxiliary attaching band ndapted to surround the biiiding strip at the lower edge of the body and extended through the loops.
