Description
Sept. 30. 1924.
W. C. LANDON GARMENT SUPPOR'I'ER AND PROTECTOR Filed April '7, 1922 Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. LANDON, OF AKRON, O'I-IIO.
GARMENT SUPllEOIlEtTEIR. AND PROTECTOR.
Application filed April 7,
To all whom it may concern a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Supporters and Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient means which may be used as and serve the purpose of a stocking or sock supporter but which is primarily designed to protect light or summer weight outer garments such as trousers from contact with the knees and therefore from the effect of perspiration, and incidentally toprovide a device having such a construction that while serving as a protector it will also act as a means of maintaining the parts thereof in proper position whether the wearer is in a sitting or a standing posture;
and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which "a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view of a device embodying the invention applied in the operative position as a knee protector and garment supporter.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device detached.
Figure 8 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
The device consists essentially of a relatively thin preferably moisture proof and flexible knee pad 10 which is broader transversely at its lower portion than at its upper portion. It is provided at its extremities with upper and lower garment engaging clasps 11 and 12 of any suitable or con ventional form for engagement respectively with the leg portions of under garments of the type commonly used in warm weather and commercially known as B. V. Ds. as indicated at 13 and with stockings or socks 14: which terminate below the knee and which jointly expose the knee to contact 1922. Serial no- 550,480.
' with the outer garment with the result that Be it known thatI, WILLIAM G. LANDON,
when the latter is of relatively light or thin material the effect of perspiration vis observable. The clasps 11 applied to the upper portion are spaced from the side edges thereof while the web-bings attached to thelower corners are disposed in diverging relation when the pad is flat, so that when the latter is disposed in spanning relation with the knee, the webbings may depend in substantially vertical position for attachment to the hose.
The pad not only serves as a means of holding the outer garment out of contact with the knee of the wearer but maintains a uniform line of strain with reference to the garment clasps whether the wearer is in a standingor a sitting position, and by connecting one of the sets of garment clasps with the pad through the agency of adjustable webbing 15 as indicated in the draw{ ing, it is possible not only to adapt the device tobe suited to varying distances between the garments to which attachment is made but to insure any desired degree of tension but to insure the comfort of the wearer or avoid any tendency to a binding or rest-raining action.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is:-
A combined knee protector and garment support comprising a pad adapted to be applied over the knee cap and being broader transversely at its lower portion than at its upper port-ion, clasps applied "to the upper portion of the pad at points spaced from the side edges thereof and adaptedto be connected with a garment of the wearer, webbings attached at one end to the lower corners of the pad and diverging from each other downwardly from the pad and clasps carried by the webbings and adapted tobe connected with the hose of the wearer at the opposite sides of the leg.
In testimony whereof he "affixes his signature.
WILLIAM ,o. LANDON.
