TOBACCO-PIPE.
To all whom itmag/ Be it known that h -Josnrnc-Ynn'riu,
residing at New York city,
mentsin Tobacco-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
, may be uickly and readily removed tofae My invention relates to. certain new and useful improvements in tobacco pipes and has as a primary object the provision of a as a cigar holder or :as a tobacco pipe.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the same that the'parts' thereof cilitate c caning.
A further object provide a device of the character described which when placed upon a table or similar.
object will remain in anupright position.
With the above and other'objects in view my invention resides preferably in the construction, combination, and I arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention showing the same assembled for use as a tobacco pipe. 7 a
Fig. 2is a top plan view of my invention showing thesai'ne assembled for use as a ci arholder.
ig. 3 is a side-elevation of the same part1 in section, showing the invention as-.
semb ed for use as a cigar holder.
Similar reference characters indicate simil ar parts throughout thevarious views of the drawings. 40 1 Referring more particularly to the drawings in which the preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated, ll provide a stem 1 having the usual mouth-piece 2 threaded at 3 thereon. The stem 1 is slightly modified to facilitate its use as a tobacco pipe stem or a cigar holder. The stem and mouth-piece are provided with the usual central duct designated 4:, said duct t, ex-' tending-throughout the length of thestem l and opening at both ends thereof. The end of the duct 4 remote from the mouth-piece 2 is countersunk or enlarged asindicated at ,5 for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
For use as a tobacco pipe the stem is proof the invention is to 1 I vided with ant enlarged portion 6 at any Elfi subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, in the. countybf New York and State of New York, have 111 pointthroughout its length but preferably adjacent the portion: of the stem remote from the mouthpiece 2. The enlarged portion 6 is'provided with. a relatively large p p raeeatease a 18,191'3. .1 Application filed June'22,1915..jSeria1No.35,558. w
threaded aperture 7 communicating with thecentralduct 4 for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. A closing end cap 8 'is provided, said end cap 8 being threaded both interiorly and exteriorly for a purpose which will hereinafter appear, it beingaparent that the free extremity of the stem 1 is threaded as at 9 to receive the internally threaded portion of the cap 8, as shown to" advantage in Fig.1. The cap 8 is permanently associated with the stem 1 by means f'of a flexible element, in this instance a chainlO. F
For use as a tobacco pipe, ll provide a modified bowl 11 having a rehtively large opening 12 in the bottom 13 thereof and a longitudinally extending shank 14: for reception in the threaded opening 7, as shown to advanta e in Fig. 1. The distance to which.the W1 11 is receivable into the aperture 11 :is limited. by the bottom 13. The bowl llsisprovided with a. supplementalremovable bottom 15, said bottom being perforated at 16 and provided with spaced laterally extending resilient arms 17, the free extremities of the arms 17 being bent angularly as at18 for engagement over the lower extremity of the threaded shank 14, said arms being receivable in the opening 12. This structure facilitates the removal of the perforated bottom 15 for cleaning purposes. As shown to advantage in Fig. l, the device of my invention may be used as a tobacco pipe.
For use as a cigar holder, attention is dirooted to Figs. 2 and 3. The bowl is removed from the opening 7 and the cap 8 is ing and the central duct 4:, by virtue of the extension of the same throughout the length cleaning rod and'rendering more efi'ective v the cleaning operationw It will be noted that the enlargedportion 6 extends flush with the round face of the stem 1 at the bottom and is flat so that the 1 I pipe maybe readily. placed upon an ob ect in an upright position. Itis to be understood that the enlargement 6 need not be of .10
the configuration shown but may be formed with anyfancydesign desired. In actual practice the peculiar manner. in which thef perforated bottom 15 .issecured. in the bowl" 11 may be modified, aswellas' the construction of the threaded cap 8.
entis:
1. A tobacco pipe, includmg a stem' hav ing a central duct extending throughoutl its t length, one end of'said 'stem 'around said threadedginternally, said stem"having a I enlarged portion, said enlarged portion have ing a laterally extending threaded opening therein communicating with the central duct, and a tobacco bowlthreaded in saidcentral; duct being countersunk, an-*- end ca opening and having communication with said duct, as andfor the purpose set forth, said cap being externally threaded to engage said opening when said bowl is removed. I
2.. A tobacco pipe, including a stem hav-' finglastraight central duct therein, an en-' largedportion on said stem, said enlarged portion having a threaded laterally extendv 1 I I ing opening therein communicating with I While I have shown and described my :in- I vention as possessing a peculiar form. and construction, it is desired that it beunde'r stood that I may make such changes in the; details thereof that do not depart-from" the spirit and scope of the invention as clairned' Having thus described my invention what a I claim and desire to sccurelby Letters the central duct for removably receiving a 1 bowl, and an end cap threaded externally and internally for reception. in the threaded opening when the bowl isremoved or over the free extremity of: the stem when, the
. ;bowl is applied. I. I I In testimony whereof'I afiix my signature I presence of two Witnesses.
