1 Claim. (01. 131mm) My invention relates to an appliance, and more particularly to a smokers appliance.

For reasons of health, many people, who used to be heavy smokers, are forbidden to smoke in the customary way by inhaling and exhaling the fumes of tobacco, or due to some mouth or tongue irritation, they have to avoid to bring tobacco in any form, such as cigars or cigarettes, or even the mouth piece of cigaror cigaretteholders in touch with mouth or tongue. In fact, it is common knowledge that it is extremely difil cult for smokers to discontinue smoking, and in many instances the discontinuing of smoking causes great disturbances of psychological or other nature.

An object of my invention is to provide an appliance, which permits the user thereof to have the satisfaction of the aroma of a cigar, or cigar ette, without inhaling the fumes of tobacco.

Another object of my invention is to providean appliance, by means of which the user thereof may produce smoke from a cigar or cigarette, without inhaling the fumes of tobacco, so that he has the satisfaction of seeing and smelling smoke, which plays an important role to smokers.

A further object of my invention is to provide an appliance, by means of which nervous people, who were used to smoke more or less only for nonvous reasons, obtain a perfect substitute for the customary smoking to steady their nerves.

Still another object of my invention is to provide an appliance, which permits the user thereof to have substantially the same satisfaction as if he would smoke by inhaling and exhaling fumesof tobacco, which, however, prevents the user from inadvertently bringing a cigar or cigarette to the mouth.

My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my improvements as will be hereinafter fully described.

The above mentioned objects and advantages as well as other objects and advantages will be more fully disclosed in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a smokers appliance for cigars according to the invention,

Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the smokers appliance shown in Fig. 1,

Fig. 3 illustrates a portion or the smokers appliance shown in Fig. 1 in a different state of operation, and

Fig. 4 illustrates a holding member for cigarettes for use in a smokers appliance according to the invention.

Referring now to Figs. 1-3, In generally indicates a rubber bulb for blowing air. Said rubber bulb has an air inlet opening I2 with a check valve It in its wall at one of its ends and has an outlet It at its other end. Said outlet I6 is shaped for receiving the end I 8 of a hollow holding member generally indicated by 20. The other end 22 of said holding member 20 is shaped for receiving the end of a cigar 24. When the end I8 or the holding member 20 is inserted into the outlet I6 of the rubber bulb l0 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the outlet of the rubber bulb is [connected with the interior of the holding member 20 and air may be blown through the channel 26 connecting the open ends I8 and 22 of the holding member 20 with each other into a cigar 24 inserted into the end 22 of the holding member 20. Said blowing of air may be obtained by alternating compressing (see Fig. 3) and releasing (see Fig. 1) the rubber bulb i0. During smoking when the bulb is released air will enter the bulb through inlet opening I2 and smoke and air will enter the bulb through the holding member 20. When the bulb is compressed air and an air and smoke mixture will pass out through the holding mem ber 20.

According to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1-3, the end I8 of the holding member 20 is disengageably inserted into the outlet I 6 of the rubber bulb. This feature facilitates the cleaning of the appliance and permits an easy replacement of the holding member 20 by another holding member of substantially the same shape or of a different shape.

For example, if after using the appliance for a cigar with a holding member 20 shown in Figs. 1-3, the appliance shall be used for a cigarette, the holding member 20 is removed from the rubber bulb I0 and is replaced by a holding member gen-; erally indicated by I20 in Fig. 4. The end I I8 of said holding member I 20 fits into the outlet 56 of the rubber bulb I 0 shown in Fig. 2 and the open end I22 of said holding member I20 is of such a shape, that it may receive a cigarette.

Furthermore, the tubular holding member 20 or I20 of suitable material, for example a plastic 01 a metal, may be of different shape or may be rigidly connected with the rubber bulb I0. Moreover, the part 20 or I20 may be integral with the body of the rubber bulb I0, so that, in other words, the outlet of the rubber bulb is shaped for receiving the end of a cigar or cigarette.

The appliance shown in Figs. l3 may be used by persons, who are not allowed to put a cigar or cigarette in the mouth for customary smoking by held in the hand. Then, the person using the appliance may'keep the cigar burning by com. pressing and releasing at intervals the rubber bulb l0. Preferably, the appliance is held in such a way, that the user thereof may have the satisfaction of seeing the smoke and smelling: the:

aroma of the cigar. This is a, perfect substitute for a person, who was used to smoke cigars for the taste of the aroma thereof. Onthe-'othenliand; nervous persons, who were used to smoke for nervous reasons will find a perfect substitute for steadying their nerves by the, continuous. compressing and releasing oftherrnbb'er bulb. More.- over, the use of the. appliance according to. the invention. prevents. an. inadvertent. placing. of; the. roll oi tobacco, i. .e. .a; cigar or a.;cigarette, intolthe. mouth.

What I claim is:

A smokers appliance comprising a smokable article holder having an enlarged portion for receiving a smokable article and a narrow supporting portion, and a pump comprising a hollow bulb of elastic material having an inlet valve in the wall thereof and an outlet opening only at an end thereof spaced from said inlet valve, said outlet opening constituting a holding means for the narrow portion of the holder and a continuous communication means between that portion of the holder and the interior of the bulb whereby flexing and unfiexing of the bulb will permit only the. entry of air at the inlet valve and permit air andnan air and smoke mixture to pass through the'outlet opening and the holder.
