197,272. Billau, J. E. Nov. 29, 1922. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Tobacco pipes and cigar and cigarette holders.-In a pipe or a cigar or cigaretteholder in which the smoker inhales pure air through the mouthpiece, the combustion of the tobacco is maintained bv means of a compressible member which, in the case of a pipe, is provided between the mouthpiece and the bowl. The bore b of the mouthpiece terminates in a transverse passage e open to the atmosphere. A short tube f of compressible material, which is retained by metal bands g, g<1> and may be supported by a member h, Fig. 5, connects the mouthpiece and the bowl and is alternately compressed and released to maintain the combustion of the tobacco. The mouthpiece a may be made in two parts connected by a spigot joint, as shown, and may contain a wad l of medicated material. The aperture e may be connected to a tube or tubes encircling the howl to warm the inhaled air. In cigar or cigarette holders, the cigar or cigarette is inserted in the outer end of the compressible member, which is preferably provided with a flangled protecting ring of ornamental metal.
