Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM WOLF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new andlmproved Hat-Brim, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to womens hats, and its object is to provide the desired stifi ness to enhance thev appearance of the hat and reduce the cost of manufacturing to a minimum.

In order to produce the desired result, use is made of an annular covering closed at the outer edge, a flat filling in the said covering and secured at its outer edge to the covering, and two stiiening rings on opposite sides of the outer margin of the said filling.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

rIhe covering of the hat brim is formed of two annular pieces 11 and 12 of velvet or other suitable fabric material, the pieces being placed in overlying relation to each other with the pile faces in contact to allow of fastening the outer edges of the two pieces together by the use of stitches 13, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2. The covering made in this manner is nowv turned inside out and then a stiffener is inserted in the covering between the two pieces 11 and 12. This stlffener consists of a flat piece of cardboard or a similar material, corresponding to the shape of the covering 10 and providedon one face at the outer margin with a ring 16, preferably of wire, fastened in place by stitches 17, as plainly indicated in,

After the stiffener is inserted in the covering 10, it is fastened in position in the covering by stitches 18 extending through the stiffener adjacent the ring 16, as plainly indicated in Fig. 5, it being understood that the outer portions of the stitches are at the seam of the covering pieces 11 and 12. A second ring 2O of spring wire or suitable material is now inserted in the covering between the piece 12 and the face of the stiffening piece 15 opposite the one carrying the wire ring 16.

It will be noticed that the wire rings 16 and 20 are located on.opposite sides of the stiifener 15 within the covering 10, thus giving the desired neat appearance to the brim and at the same time stiffening the brim to the desired degree and without danger of the brim losing` its shape.

The covering pieces 11 and 12 andthe stiffener 15 are fastened together at the inner margin by two rows of stitches and 2G, and then the inner margin is slitted radially to form fiaps 27 adapted to be turned up for receiving the crown 30 of the hat, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 1.

It will be noticed that the several parts forming the hat brim can be readily assembled and fastened together in the manner described without requiring skilled labor7 thus reducing the cost of manufacturing the brim to a minimum.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent z- 1. A. hat brim, comprising a covering made of two pieces fastened together at their outer edges, a flat filling extending between the said covering pieces and provided at its outer edge with a stiiening ring, stitches fastening the outer margin of the said filling to the said covering, and a shaping ring inserted between one of the covering pieces and the filling.

2. A. hat brim, comprising a covering made of two pieces of a fabric material sewed together at their outer edges, a fiat filling between the said covering pieces, and two rings on opposite faces of the filling at the outer edge thereof.

3. A hat brim, comprising an annular covering closed at the outer edge, a flat filling in the ,said covering and secured at its outer edge to the said Covering,` and two stiening rings on opposite sides of the outer margin of the said filling.

4. A hat brim, comprising an annular covering closed at the outer edge, a flat lling in tbe said covering and secured at its outer edgel to the said covering, two stiftening -rings'on opposite sides of the outer margin of the said iilling, and stitches fastening one of the stifening 'rings to the 'illingx 5, A Vhat brim, comprising a covering made of two annular pieces Sewed together at their outer edges, a flat stiiener inserted in the covering located between the said Covering pieces, a metal ring overlying one face of the stiener at the margin thereof, stitches fastening the said ring to the said stiifener, stitches fastening the said stiifener at the margin thereof to the said covering, and a second ring within the Covering located between one of the covering pieces and the face of the Stiii'ener opposite the one carrying the said first ring.4 4
