UNITED STATES GERARDO MANTILLA, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
nzaaowizan.
Application filed July 15, 1924. Serial No. 726,164.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GERARno MANTILLA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Headwear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to headwear, and has for its object the provision of an article resembling a cap, but having its head-en gaging portion formed as a species of net, the head engaging portion being equipped. with a visor, the advantage being that the article will be lighter in weight and more comfortable for use in the summer time or in hot climates, while at the same time the visor will protect the eyes and the net-like head-engaging portion will hold the hair in place while permitting free ventilation.
An additional object. is the provision of headwear of this character which will be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, neat and attractive in appearance, healthful and sanitary in use, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and arrangement to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a side elevation of the article.
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the mechanical construction.
Figure 4 is a detail fragmentary view showing a modification.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown the article as comprising a head-engaging portion 10 and a visor 11. The head-engaging portion includes inner and outer bands 12 and 13, respectively, the former of which may be formed as or equipped with a sweat band and the latter of'which constitutes the outside brim. These bands are reenforced at their ends by a strip 14: disposed between them to over-lap the joints. At their lower edges the bands are turned in and stitched at 15, or secured in any other desired manner. The visor 11 is attached in any desired manner as for instance by having its inner edge interposed between the bands 12 and 13, and secured by the stitches 15 above referred to.
The head-engaging portion 10 or body of the device is shown as being of a net-like formation and consists of a plurality of cords or other flexible members 16 radiating from a central ring 17 which may be flexible or not, as referred. The various flexible members might radiate from the center in straight lines or they may be curved as illustrated, such a detail being immaterial and the flexible members may be interlaced or not and secured together by knotting as indicated at 18.
In Figure 4 I have illustrated a slightv modification in which the neticonstituting the body portion is formed of a plurality of intersecting rings or loops 20 fastened to the band and central ring in the above described or any other desired manner.
In the use of the device it is quite apparent that the hair will be held in place while at the same time it will have free ventilation and the benefit of sunshine. The visor of course protects the eyes from the light and in actual practice I have discovered that the article is very comfortable, sanitary and satisfactory in every respect.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of the invention it is to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction and arrangement as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having described the invention, I claim In a cap of the character described, a head encircling band having its upper and lower edges turned outwardly and toward each other, a reinforcing strip located outwardly of said band at the joint between the ends thereof, an outer band disposed against said inner band and having the joint between its ends located opposite said reinforcing strip, said outer band having its upper GERARDO MANTILLA.
