My invention relates to muiiiers and refers particularly to combined head, ear and neck muiflers.

One object of my invention is a muffler of the character -described adapted to be attached firmly but removably to the sweat band of a hat, cap or other similar head covering.

Another object of my invention is a muffler of the character described adapted to be attached rmly but removably with equal effectiveness to sweat bands of hats, caps, and similar head coverings of wide variance in the width of such sweat bands.

Another object of my invention is a device of the character described which will cover and protect the entire back an-d sides of the head and also thoroughly protect the throat portion of the neck.

Another object of my invention is a device of the character described which possesses not only the protection described but also acts to retain the hat, cap or other head covering upon the head of the wearer, thus preventing its dislodgment in high winds.

Another object of my invention is a device of the character described of such size, shape and material as to allow it to be folded into an extremely small space when not in use.

The above, and other desirable attributes of my device will be evident upon a consideration of my specication and its accompanying drawing.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating one form of the device of my invention, similar parts are designated by similar numerals.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device in position of use.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the device of Figure 1 in ilat position.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device of Figure 2 in position to be attached to the sweatband of a hat or cap.

Figure 4 is an enlarged vertical cross-section of the blank of my device shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 when attached to the sweat-band of a hat in position upon a head.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device of my invention in position of use.

My device shown in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 consists of a body portion I0 of soft, warm, pliable material as a suitable fabric having an upper edge II, two divergent edges I2 and I3, and the angularly indented edge III-I5, these edges being preferably suitably over-lapped and stitched as shown. I do not limit myself to this particular outline of the blank as it may be varied to suit particular requirements. A male and female fastening clasp I6 and I1 are aiiixed to the two lower angles formed by the edges I2 and I4 and I3 and I5. v

Fixedly attached to the edge I`I are a plurality, here shown as three, of suspending members I8, I9, 20 which are made of a pliable material suitable for the requirement and may be of a pliable metal, covered or uncovered, of heavy textile or of any other suitable material for the purpose to which they are applied in use.

It is further evident that the suspending loops I9, I9 may be removably attached to the body portion III, as with male-and-female clasps or otherwise, thus allowing the use of such loops as are best adapted for the width of the sweat band 2 I.

In order to attach my device to a hat, the suspending members I8, I9 and 26 are bent to form the loops I8', I 9 and 29', the length of the unbent portions being such as to correspond with the width of the sweat-band. The suspending members I8, I9 and 20 are then placed upon the rear portion of the sweat-band 2| of a hat 22, the suspending member I9 being preferably on the rear of the hat and the loops I8', I9 and 20 being situated between the sweat-band 2| and the hat 22. My device is thus suspended from the rear and side portion of the hat, the upper edge I I being slightly above the lower edge of the hat and between the hat and the head of the wearer. The portions carrying the male-and-female clasps I 6, I'I are then brought forward under the chin and clasped together.

The modified form of my device shown in Figure 5 is similar to that shown in the other figures except that the male-andefemale clasp I6, I'I is replaced by two tapes 23 and 24 and are tied together.

The iiexibility of the material of the loops I8,

I9 and 20 to allow of the formation of loops of any desired length is essential for proper adjustment as sweat-bands vary from 1 inch to 31/2 inches in width, and it is evident that a loop of suitable length for a 3% inch wide sweat-band if applied to a sweat-band l inch in width would allow the edge I I of the body I0 to be positioned 21/2 inches below the hat, thus exposing a portion of the head. It is to be further noted that by having flexible suspending members capable of forming loops of different lengths, the device can be readily adapted to different hats having sweat-bands of different Widths.

It is to be noted from an examination of the drawing illustrating my device and my explanation thereof, that not only is the back and sides of the head completely covered and thoroughly protected but that my device anchored beneath the chin of the wearer the hat is maintained upon the head and can not be displaced by wind or otherwise, this desirable attribute being assisted by the fact that my device cannot be displaced from the hat as an upward movement of the hat can not open the loops of the'suspending members which are prevented from expansion because of their placement between the sweat-band and the hat body.

It is evident, therefore, that the wearer of my device not only has head, ears and neck thoroughly protected but also has both hands free for such purposes as he may desire as he is not compelled to use them in order to retain his hat upon his head.

I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, arrangement or material of parts as specically shown and described as these are given simply for the purpose of clearly describing my invention.

What I claim is:

1. In a muffler, in combination, a body portion of flexible material adapted to cover the back and the side portions of the head and the throat portion of a wearer, a plurality of pliable suspending members carried by the upper portion of said body, having free ends adapted to be bent into loops of different lengths and being adapted to be removably attached to the sweatband of a hat upon the head of the wearer and means for removably connecting a portion of said body portion beneath the chin of the wearer,

In a muler, in combination, a body portion of exible material adapted to cover the back and the side portions of the head and the throat portion of a wearer, a plurality of pliable metal suspending members carried by the upper portion of said body having free ends adapted to be bent into loops of diierent lengths and being adapted to be removably attached to the sweat-band of a hat upon the head of the wearer and means for removably connecting a portion of said body portion beneath the chin of the wearer.
