HASP-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 21, 1917.
Application filed June 24, 1916. Serial No. 105,603.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HoLMns, a subject of Great Britain, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hasp-Fasteners, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to a hasp button or fastener adapted to be secured by a lock preferably a pad lock to prevent unauthorized manipulation thereof.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the device will have a more secure engagement with the structure to which it is secured and the securing elements thereof prevented from being removed.
Inthe drawings Figure l is a plan View of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of line 4.4 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of portions of the invention.
Again referring to the drawing it will be seen that a hasp 113 is provided with a struckup finger 21 to provide a slot 22 to receive the pivot member 23, provided for said hasp. This form is adapted for a sliding car door and the member 23 is screwed into the support. The upstruck finger 21 is bent to provide a guard parallel with the hasp and thereby prevent the removal of the pivot members when the hasp is in looking position. This is possible because when the hasp is in the locked position it is slid on the pivot member so as to cause the guard fingers to overlap the pivot member. The sliding door 26 is provided with a keeper shown in detail in Fig. 3 as consisting of a plate 27 having a right angular projecting finger '28 provided with an opening 29 adapted to register with an opening 30 in.
the right angular projecting lip 31 on the bar 113. The bar 113 is provided with a loop 15 to engage the loop 17 of the staple if desired. Passing through the loop 17 is a bar 19 of the lock 20 by means of which the loop 17 is prevented from passing through the loop 1 When the parts are in the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the door 26 cannot slide away from the frame 11 because the lip 31 011 the hasp bar 113 engages the outside of the finger 28 and the loop 15 may be moved neither up nor down. If desired a seal may be employed and provided with the usual wire which may pass through the openings 29 and 30. Attention is called to the fact that when the device is in locked position the finger 21 is disposed over the head of the screw or pivot member so that the latter can not be removed. Attention is also called to the fact that the hasp bar 113 covers one of the screws or secured devices which passes through the plate 27 and into the door 26. Thus even if the seal is broken difiiculty will be experienced in releasing the finger 28 from engagement with the lip 31 or the hasp 113. WVhen it is desired to open the door the seal usual way and the shackle of the lock is removed from engagement with the loop 16 of the staple 17.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a cheap simple, and durable device and one which will sufliciently perform operations for which it is designed.
What I claim and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. A hasp comprising a bar having a por tion near the middle struck up therefrom to provide a pivot opening, a pivot in the opening and closed by the struck up portion and a keeper engaging portion on said hasp.
2. A hasp comprising a bar having a portion near the middle struck up therefrom to form an opening, a screw having its shank passing through the opening, said bar hav i11 one extremity formed into a loop and a staple so arranged as to engage said loop when the struck up portion is arranged over the head of the screw.
3. A hasp comprising a bar having aportion near the middle struck up therefrom to form an opening, a screw having its shank passing through the opening, said bar having one extremity formed into a loop anda is first removed in the staple so arranged as to engage said 100p In testimony whereof I afiix my signature when the struck up portion is arranged over in presence of two witnesses.
the head of the screw and an element associated With the other extremity of said bar HENRY HOLMES and coiiperating with said staple and loop Witnesses:
i'or pi eventingmgvement of said pqrtion JEN IE JONES,
from" over the head of said screw. B. F. FUNK.
